N Tuefday morning srrived the Hampfhire, O Coninfby Norbury, Eq; with three prizes, one a French letter of marque {loop of ten guns, another floop with merchandize, and the third a French Dutch floep. On Thurldzy morning bstween the hours of 3 and ‘4 o’clock, we had a fmart fhock of an earthquzke, but happily did no damage. The fame evening arrived at Port Royal, his majefty’s fhip Lively, the hon. Frederic Maitland, Efq; commander, from a cruize, on which fhz took * a French feitee, and 4 flags of truge belonging to North America, from Port au Prince and Leogane, laden with fugirs, &c. Feb. 16. On Tuefday laft arrived his msjefty’s fhip Glafgow, Richard Bickerton, Efq; commander, with the following fhips laden with king’s ftores, viz. The Price Frigate, Lee ; the Henry, Richardfon ; Mary, Forbes ;5 Two Brothers, Denning, and Dia- mond, Gray. » Yefterday arrived at Port Royal, his majefty’s floop ‘of war Port Royal, and bro’tin 3 Englifh cartels. .. 8 CHRISTOPHERS, March 12. # On Monday was bro’t into the road of Bafleterre, 2 prize fchooner taken by his msjefty’s fhip Raifona- ble, Molincux Shuldham, E'q; commander : She is loaded with fugar and rum. His majefty’s thips Naffau and Emerald have taken 4 Darch veflels bound from Martinico to St.Euftatius, and a French letter of marque floop of ten guns. A floop taken by Capt. William<, and a fnow and # brig by Capt. Reed, all under Dutch colours, have been brought into the road of Bafleterre. His Msjefty’s thip Echo has carried into Antigus, & French privateer floop of 12 guns. The brig Sufannab, from Glafgow and Cork, is retaken and carried into Antigua. “ The King of Bonny, Capt. Jones, from Africa, is teken by s French privateer floop of 12 guns, after an engagement of two hoursand a half. Therc were four more privateers within gun fhot when the ftruck. The Chefterfield of Liverpool, with 360 negroes, is alfo taken. " CHARLES -TOWN, S. Cardlina, March 18. A letter of marque brig, from Cape Francois for France, was lately taken and fent into Providence by the Nancy, a pettiaugre privateer belonging to An- tigus, commanded by Capt. M‘Donald. Another Antigua privateer; called the Hibernian’s Revenge, Capt. Halmer has fent an Eaglith brig, from Monte Chrifti, into Providence. The lame privateer, in company with the Experi- ment of Providence, on the 1zth ult. fent into the fame port another Englith Monte Chrifti man, of 4 carriage and 6 fwivel guns, who fought the privateers, and killed 1 of the Experinient’s hands. We hear from Curacoa, that Cspt. Taylor of Philadelphia, having taken many veffels of that Iiland, the Dutch had fitted cut a brig, and two flocps, in order to take him, but he being gone to Jamaica, they fell in with and took Capt. Skinner, in the De Latcey privateer of New-York, and bro’t his veflel into [aid Hland, where fhe was when Capt. Smich {siled, and Capt. Skinner end his people all in jail. It is faid Capt. Skinner had taken and ranfomed a Dutch veflel, which, by the late a&t of parliament; is declared piracy and felony. Our advices relating to Indian affairs, are as follows, viz. That on the 1ft of March Licut. Coytmore of fort Prince George died of his wounds ; the [ndians continued firing upon the garrifon, but only one foldier was killed in the fort. On thie 3d 250 Che- rokees attacked the fort at Ninety fix tor 36 hours without intermiflion, at 6o yards diftance, one of the Cherokees was killed and (calped, whofe body wss given to the dogs, and his fcalp hoifted along fide the colours to provoke them to come nearer : next day the fort was reinforced with Major Lloyd and 11 men ; fix Cherokees were killed and many wounded ; only two wounded inthe fort j onthe 4th the enemy withdrew. The 6:th fix men were attacked going from Mr. Turner’s to Pennington fort, by about 40 Indisns, 2 were killed, z mifling, and z got back to Turner’s. Capt. Grinman immediately fet out with 81 rangers ; in croffing the river were furrounded by about 70 Indians, which obliged them to retreat back, which he did without lofs ; by the time he got s back the fort was furrounded by 100 Indians, who only viewed itand went off without firing a gun, they ‘burnt every thing on their going off. On the gth a fnan was killed inSaxe Gotha townfhip by the Indians; on the 10th Jacob Treftsand ore fenkins were killed and fcalped : the fame day 25 other perfons were murdered on the forks of Edifto river, about 10 miles from the head of Congaree creek. That the Crecks, who were unealy when German's fort was ereéted, feemed more reconciled ; that feveral gentlemen among them were zealoufly ‘aftive and effiduous in endea- vouring to intereft that nation in our quarrel. She has on Board upwards of 5000 Weight of Indigo, and a large Quantity of white Sugar, which, with other Effets, muft render her a valuable Prize.
