Monday the 10th Inft. arrived at New Vork the General Wall Packet, in v,3 Days from Falmouth in England : By ber we bave the Sfollowing Advices, viz. C O R K, September 20, Y the India fhips arnived at Kinfale we have the following particulars, viz. That in O¢tober 1758, Col. Ford, who com- mands on the coait of Coromandel, at the head of 400 Europeans, and. 2000 Seapoys, had an engagement with Monl. Conflans (who fucceeded M. de Bufly in the cammand of the French forces) at the head of 6oo French and 7000 Seapoys,in which Col. Ford obtained a compleat Victory, having ruined the whole army and made the commander prifoner. That this Succefs was immediately followed by the furrender of a principal fort of the enemy’s, their abandoning Ford St. David’s, and the defertion of 4 or 500 of of Gen. Lally’s European troops, who had entered with Adm. Pocock as marines. That the Admiral had landed the Englith marines to affiit Col. Ford in carrying on the war, and chat it was not doubted but thefe fuc- ceffes would be attended with as important circumftances as the vittories formerly ob- tained by Col. Clive. Admiral Cornifh fail’d from Madeira the 13th of May laft, with 4 fail of the line to join Admiral Pocock, who will, on this junc- tion, be fuperior to the French fleet, from which we may reafonably hope that theFrench will be utterly ruined in the Eaft-Indies, L O N/D O N Sept. 20. Yefterday Commedore Callis kiffed his Majefty’s Hand at Kenfington, on being promoted to be a Rear Admiral of his Majefty’s Flcet. VVe hear that Admiral Callis is to have the Command of the Fleet preparing for Channel Service. The warfpite, and the other Men of war that came home with Admiral Bofcawen, are to compofe a Part of the above Fleet, and will go out of Portfmouth Harbour for that Purpofe, the latter End of next week. V Ve learn from the Hague,that confidera- ble wagers are laid that the French will be obliged to abandon all the Places which they’ are in Poffeflion of in Germany, and repafs the Rhine, before the End of next Month. Sept. 25. In a ftorm the Ilchefter met with, off the Mauritius, fhe had 30 of her men wafhed over board.— Sept. 26. They write from Naples, that the new king of Spain hath eftablithed a new confultation of phyficians and furgeons, to make a thorough inquiry, in prefence of the royal council of St. Clare, the two chiefs of the Rota, and Mr. Clementi, the Spanith minifter, whether, by fome defeét of his organifation, the infant don Philip, duke of Calabria, his majefty’s eldeft fon,be incapable of fucceeding him : In which cafe the infant don Carlos, prince of Tarenaum, his fecond fon, will be declared prince of Avfturias; and the infant don Ferdinand, his third fon, will be proclaimed king of Naples : and it s faid the ceremony of this young prince’s coronation will be performed before the king his father fets out for Spain. The eldeft of thefe three young princes entered his thir- teenth year on the 14th of June 3 the fecond Nomn, 168. Foreign and Domeftick. will compleat his eleventh year on the rath of November,and the rhird was nine on the 12th of Jaunuary Jail. He brought off two very large veffels that lay under a fort, laden with ftones of 6 or 700 weight each, ready cut for the repairing of their ba- fon. The next night he manned thefe vef- fels, and with the boats of his fquadron land- ed at day light on an ifland, and in fight of their fleet brought off all the cattle upon it Yefterday he laid the great ifland of Molires under contribution for cattle and greens which we got off. “ Our Captain tells me, that the Commo-' dore fent the Governor. word, that he was forry if what he had done had diftreffed the inhabitants ; but he meant it only as an in- fult to the French fleet, and to thew them and all Europe, that they could not protect their own people in their fight, much lefs dare 10 attempt the invafion of England. A cartel is fettled between the king of Pruffiaand theFrench—ThePruffians have deftroyed fome of the Auftrian ma- gazines, and are endeavouring to retake Drefden,in which fome reports fay they have fucceeded. — A battle was expelted between prince Ferdinand and the French, provided the latter did not foon retire.—The parlia- ment is to meet the 13th of November.— The bounties to feamen are continued,— *Tis faid admiral Callis is to command a fquadron. 2. The Spanifh fleet arrived at Naples the sth.—The Leeward Ifland fleet was feparat- cd in a gale of wind the 8th of September, in latitude 49. The Kennington man of war, from Cork, is arrived with the convoy atGibraltar, —Three French men of war attempted lately to fail from Breft but were driven back. . The Portmahon man of war has bro’¢ into the Downs two Dutch fhips, having on board 111 large pieces of cannon and 50 rounds of thot.
