PHILADELPHIA, September 27. ~In ourlaft we gave an Account of the {now Defire, Capt. Styles, being taken by the French ; and fince we bave learnt, from a Gentleman who left Port au Prince the 26th ult. that the faow was brought in there before he came away, but not one of her former Crew on board. She was taken by one Fernandez, in a Priva- teer floop, of fourteen four Pounders, whom Captain Styles and his People bravely engaged for a coufidera- ble Time, but being boarded, were obliged to afk Quarters, when, it was generally believed, they were all butchered in cold Blood ; however, fo much our Inforthant certainly knows (from the French Prize Maf- ter’s own Confeflion) that Capt. Styles, his Mate (Silas Parvin) and one of the People, were killed after they firuck, by the Captain’s Orders. The Veflel was feiz- ed for the King, by the French General’s Orders. This Savage Capt. was heard to fay before he went on his Cruize, that he would treat the firft Englifhman he met with, that fhould fight from Clofe Quarters, and give him the Trouble of boarding, in the fame Manner he has done Capt. Styles. From Pittfbourgh we hear, that on the 7th of laft Month, his Excellency Gen. Stanwyx, held a Council with the Indians there, who all feem to be firmly at- tached to the Englith Intereft : That more Indians were daily expe&ted, they coming from all Quarters to make Peace : And that our People had begun to build a Fort at that*Place, which, when finithed, will be very large, and exceeding ftrong.
