Wy Letters fidth Yama'ca, we Tearn, That they had certain Advice there from Port au Prince,of two Sloops» one of which mounted 12, and the other 20 Guns, be- ing failed from that Port, to cruize on the Coaft of North America, and that a Snow was foon to follow for the like Purpofe. The Courier from Albany arrived here laft Saturday Afternoon, which Place he left the Tuefday before, by him we learn, That the Exprefs from Crown Point arrived there as Yefterday 7-night in 6 Days, and faid, That the General and Army were well and in high Spirits :—That Captain Williams who went out with ajor Rogers, two Dgys after he fet out, had the Mis- fortune to have his Gun go off, and the Ball to go thro’ his Hand, when he return’d with 5 others, which was the laft Account receiv’d from Rogers fince he fet out ; fo that the Account under the New-York Head is not at prefent to be depended on ; Rogers having, 'tis faid, fet out with a Defign to join General Johnfon, who had march’d with 3000 Men to attack O#wegatchi. - We have alfo Accounts—That the Enemy have 4 Veflels on Lake Champlain, and that they have appear- ed near the Otter River—That the French have drove Pickets in the Water from both Shores, near the Ifle an Noix, and placed a floating Battery betwixt, in the Eaftern Channel ; by Means whereof the Enemy are at prefent fuperior on the Lake ; but by the Works car- rying on, it is hoped we fhall foon be an overmatch for them—That every Thing is carried on with the utmoft Vigour and Spirit ; but the late heavy Rains which have fallen abouat the Camp have retarded our Works; and that our People however continue healthy. ‘The General COURT fits here on Wednefday next. . Wednefday laft failed on a Cruize the Province Ship King George, Capt. Hollowell, and took under Con- voy a Number of ProvifionVeflels bound toLeuifbourg and the Fleet. : Tburfday lafl Capt. M‘Cowen arrived bere in a Ship, in 44 Days from Famaica, in whom came Paffengers feve- ral Maflers of the Monto Chriflo Veffels lgggly carried in there, their Vefels and Cargoes being condemned. By the new pofition which the Pruffian Troops have taken, Prince Henry who has near 25,000 men under him, will be able to fupport the army of the *Kivng his brother, or at leaft makea powerful diverfion in Upper Lufatia. Berlinf Suly 10. According to the laft advices from Count Dohna’s army it was ftill encamped on the 6th at Oberaick, bat the General was preparing to get rhund theRuflian camp in order to force them to a battle. Trattnaugh, July 13. M. deGemmirgen has join’d M. Daun, whofe army now amounts to 68,000 combatants, From the Lonpon GazETTE of Aug. 11. BE R L IN, (Capital of the King of Prujfia’s : Dontinions in Germany) July 28. 7~~OUNT ‘Dohna having had leave, as he defired, to (J quit the command of the army againft the Ruffians, and to retire to Berlin for the recovery of his health ; Lieutenant General Wedel was appointed to fucceed him, who accordingly arrived at the camp of Zullichau on the z2d inflant, efcorted by 200 dragoons of Schor- Jemmer’s regiment commanded by Major Podewils, That officer had, in his march, defeated oneof the ene- iy s detachments (that was then plundering the village ‘W of Rawitz) of which he tock 69 prifoners, and killed upwards of 80. General Wedeli's firlt ftep, on his ar- ‘rival, was, to reconnoitre the pofiticn of the Ruffian camp at Langemeil. On the 23d it appearing by the “maotions of the eremy, that their intention was to quit that camp, and again draw near the Oder, General ‘Wedel, on his fide, in order to oppofe their pafliog ¢hat river, marched the army in two columns, one to- wards Kay, and the other towards Mcze. The head oi our van guard, confifting of cavalry, had hardly pafled the defile of Kay, before they attack’d the enemy’s light troops, which were repulfed with great lofs. The ene- my was afterwards continually harraffed on their march; and our cavalry, commanded by General Schorlemmer, fell upon them at different times, with great impetuofity and fuccefs. Lieutenant @eneral Manteuffel, made alfo an attack with fix battalions, and poffefi’d himfelf of {everal of the enemies batteries. But as the Ruffians were advancing under cover of the batteries they had placed on the heights, from whence they fired very brifkly, while the artillery -on our fide could be of no fervice General Wedel thought proper to content himfelf with the advantages he had gained, withoyt returning to the charge. He thereft')re.pltche.d his camp within-cannon fhot of the enemy ; his right wing extcnd"‘&: Raper, of that L ing to the hill of Kay, whi re the attack begun. The lofs we have had cannot yet be afcertained : [t certain- ly does not exceed athoufand men killed and, wounded. That of the enemy, which is not exaltly koown, is very confiderable. We loft General Woperfnow in one of the attacks,& General Manteuffel was wounded. Hagur Aug. 3. Here are two pieces of News currently “reported astrue on one fide, and greatly {ulpected by the Partizans on the other. The firlk is the Defeat of the Pruffians by the Ruflisns on the 23d, the other is the viQory gained by Prince Ferdinand over Marfhal Contades on the 1ft, about which the Flanders Gazete acknowledges there is rather more certainty ; but then he reduces the whole to the lofs of 4000 men, and the French retiring under the cannon of Minden. The Reader will take Notice that the -Writer dates his own Paragraph the 3d, and making the Batile hap- pen the Day before, he has contrived to make the ‘Thing as doubtful as poflible ; but the Matter will be very {peedily cleared up, when it will * very probably appear that ‘the Allies are vi&orious both in Poland and Germany. ; Hague, Aug. 9. After a long Scarcity of News, we are now overwhelmed with great Events. Prince Ferdinand of Brunfwick obferving that the French were in Pofleflion of an impregnable Poft at Totten- baufen, left General Waggenheim in the Neighbour- hood of Minden with 20,000 choice Troops. Mar- fhal Contades feeing the Army of the Allies divided, and pluming himfelf upon this Advantage, refolved to {wallow up Waggenheim’s Corps, pafled the De- files, and attacked him with great Fury. The Ge- neral received. him with great Firmnefs, but conti- nued retiring, the French followed, till the whole Army arrived in the Plain, when Prince Ferdinand attacked them in the Flank, and after a long and obftinate Dif- pute, defeated them entirely. Multitudes were pufhed into the Wefer and drowned: fome Thoufands are Prifoners, and upwards of 5o Pieces of Cannon are taken by the Allies. The French retired towards Minden. This Great Event happened on the 1ft of Auguft ; on the 2zd the Hereditary Prince of Brunfwic attacked a great Cerps of the French Army under the Command of the Duke de Brifanc, and gained a com- pleat Vi&tory. The fame Day Prince Ferdinand took poffeflion of Minden, and Marfhal Contades, with his flying army had reached Herverden. The Duke of Luxemboury is priforer, and the Count de St. Germain, efteemed the ! ice1 inthe French army, is among the flain. lummburgh, Fuly 24. From Norway we have advice that on the gth inft. at nive o’clock in the morning, a firz broke ont at Fraderickfhall, and the wind being ver, high, in lefs than an hour about 300 houfes were reduced to afhes with every thing in them : many piles of timber, which that town largely trades in, were 1lfo confumed, But the moft lamentable cirgumftauce is the many men, women, and children that perifhied in the flames, without any poffiblity of {aving them. Beriin, Fuly z4.Whilft the army under Count Dohna was encamped in the neighbourhood of Pofnania,Count Hordt was detached from it with his regiment of huffars towards the Viflula, in order to cat off the enemy’s provifions on that fide ; in which he fucceeded fo well, that he not only made himfelf in fome meafure mafter of the navigation of that river, but alfo deftroyed a confi derable magazine, which the Ruflians had eftablithed at Bromberg, where he took three officers, two fubalterns and 70 foldiers. The booty made there by our huffars confifts of a great quantity of uniforms, 6000 pair of thoes, 5700 pair of ftockings,600 fabres, 162 waggons, 200 carriages for cannon, 54 catks of brandy, and 61254 bufhels of ground corn, barley and oats. L OND O N, 7July 28. Letters from Berlin bring a confirmation of the dif- covery of a plot to burn down that city. Upwards of 300 of the confpirators (deferters from different nations, but chiefly French,) are imprifoned till the King’s pleafure is known. The Englith Fleet which was before Toulon, is gone to Salo, near Barcelona, where they bave liberty to vi¢tual and water. Fuly 30. Laft Thur{day died in Charles ftreet, Weft- miofler, Pafchal Nelfon, Efq; poflefled of a very con- fiderable landed eftate in New England, which we hear he has left to John Temple, Efq; of that country, now in England. PRAGUE, July 21. Arfhal Daun being informed that Prince Henry M was ‘marching by Lufatia with 17,000 Men, to join the King of Pruffia, removed his Army on the 19th from Mark Lifla to Lauban; and at the fame Time fent Orders to General Haddick to march with his Forces under his Command to Gabel. By this new Pofition Maithal Daun effeftually prevents Prince Henry’s Jun&tion with the King. A Battel ina tew Days feems abfolutely inevitable. His Pruffian Majefly's Army doth not exceed 50,000 Men, exclufive of the Corps under General Fouqu et, which may amount t0 12 Or 15000 more. Bruflels, Fuly 31. They write from the army of Marfhal Daun, that Count Emerick Efterhafi had like to have taken the King of Pruflia with his efcoite, as that Prince was advancing to reconnoitre our camop. The ambuth ftarted up aj moinent too focn. The Monaich was excellently mjiated : the huflars fcliow- “ ed him in v3in, #nd refurned with tho {atisfaltion of taking only thirty men of his msjelty’s efcorte, PORFSMOUT:H By Captain Simpfon, avbs arrived laf Wedrefday. at York from Halifax, in a fiort Peflage, and «who [fpote awith a Vi fJel from the River St. Lawrence bound to Botior, we are inforr'd, [hat our Flegt and Army go on wwith¥ great Spirit and Refolution, continially deftroying the French Settlemerts—That near forty of our Veffels bad got up the River above Quebeck—That the French bad began to be mutinius, Jome being defirous to furrender, while other. woald not—That it was thought they could not hold 44 mwch longer j— dnd upon the wwhole, that there wvas a fuiry Profpesi of reducing Canada this Fall : Andby a Per- Jom who came to this Town Yeflerday from Baflon ive bear the above Veffil wwas arrived there, and confirms this Je- count.
