» Wince ave reccived the Acesunts of the Proceedings of the Fleet and Army before Quebeck, we bave been favonr- ed with a JOURNAL, awrote by an Officer of Difline- tion, from the Day they fail’d from Louifbourg, to the 13¢h of Augult, avbich is as follows, viz. ; June 4th: E failled from Louifhourg, under the 1750, Command of Admiral Saunders, with 22 Saii of the Line, 22 Frigates, Bomb Ketches and Firethips, and about 9o T'ranfports having Troops, Artillery, Stores and Provifions on bpard. 23d. Weanchored ‘at the {le of Bie. 25th. We anchored in the Bay of St. Paul’s, over againft the [fle of Coudre, where we met Admiral Dur- rell, who found on board fome of the French Veflels he had taken, Letters, advili-@That Mr. Burlamarque who commanded-the French Forces at Carillon, had Qtders to abandon that Place and Crown Point ; and to retire between Crown Point and Montreal. . He informed us that three Frigates and 14 French Veflels loaded with Ammunition and Provifions where got up to Quebec. 27th. We anchored between the Ifle of Orleans and the South Side, oppofite to the Parifh of St. Law- rence. We had this Day a moft terrible Storm; we lat half the Boats belanging to our Fleet, many An- chors, and {everal Veflels difmafted. zgth. At zinthe Morning the Wind at §. E, the Eoemy (entdown from the City three Fire Ships in Flamesto-our Fleet ; but they were tow’d athore with. out doing any Damage. N. B. Our Troops that came with General Wolfe waj divided into three ‘Brigades. 30th. Owr 3 Brigades encamped on the Eminence, behind St. Lawrence Church. Juey 1ft. Brigadier Monckton went with three Regiments, the Light Tnfantry and Rangers, to take Poft at Voiot Levy, and Engineers went with him'to make Entrenchments there. zd. Brigadier Townfend marched with his Brigade -to join Col. Carleton, who was with the Grenadiers at the Point of the [fland. The Day following Gen. Murray’s Brigade followed. sth. Gen. Wolfe feat back fome Prifoners (that were taling at Landing at Point Levy) with a Manifefto declaring to the Inhabitants of the Country, That if they would Surrender, they fhouid erjoy fall Liberty of Confcience ; and in general, ail their Liberties, Pri- vileges, &c. But on the contrary if they delayed re- ta:ning to their Habitations, they might expe& to be treated with the greateft {everity. 7th. "A Man delerted from Quebec, by whom we were informed that the French Forces were about 15- 20 Mea, smang &hom there were fix Battalions of Regulars. i gth. Brigadier Townfend pals'd the NorthernArm or Branch, with his Brigade, without the lofs of a Man, ‘The Day following, the 35th, and 58th Regiments followed ; the whole Encamped at the Peint below the Falls of Montmorancy, and we intrenched as foon g3 we poffibly could. zzd. We landed about 3 Leagnes above Quebee, where we took a Number of Women, and loft 8 Men, and Major Prevolt was wounded. 26th. The Enemy attacked our Camp near Mont- morency, and were repulifed ; they faved themfelves in Part, by fwimming a crofs the Fa'ls, but they loft many Men : We had 2z Officers killed, and 12z wounded ; 10 Privates killed and 410 Wounded. The Night between the z7th and 28th [July] the Enemy feat down a Number of Redoes and infernal Ba:ks chain'd together, above 1000 Feet long ; but they had fcarce began to row this Chain of Fire Vef fels into the Current, before 6o of our Boats row’d to them, grappled, and did not leave the Enemy Time to retire with all their Men ; {o that they loft fome by the Fiames, and fome by Water; and we not one fingle Man wounded. 31ft. We landed upon the Shoals of Beauport. Our 13 Companies of Grenadiers join’d by 200 Royal A- mericans, began the Attack ot the French Entrench- ments, the igth, and 63d Regiments, commanded by Brigadier Monckton were to {uftain them., The Bri- gade of General Townflend and Murray pafs’d the Ford under the Falls, for to fuflain the latter. Opr Grenadiers having began the Apack too fodn, after having fuffered a moft quick and fmart Fire from the Parapet for above zo Minutes, they retired under cover of a Shower which came up fuddenly. The Rain rendei’d the Enemy’s Entrenchments entirely inaccef- fible, and the Tide coming in, the General did mot think it proper to make a {econd Attack : We retreated very flowly and in good Order. We had between 30 and 40 Officers kill'd and wounded in this little Affair, and above 400 Men kill'd and wounded. We have aimoif entirely ruined all the Buildings at Quebeck from our Batteries of Canpnoun and Bombs from the Point de Peres St. Jofeph, which have played above three weeks. Auc. gth. One of our Carcafles fet Fire to the lower Town of Quebeck, which burat the whole Day, and deftroyed above two thirds of the Houfes. tith. The Savages and Canadians attacked our Working Parties in the Woads,and they were repulfed, We loft 8 Men kili'd, and about 40 wounded. 13th. General Murray with 1800 Men is gone up towards the Trois Rivieres, with Defign to burn the Enemy's Magazincsand deftroy &c. &c. We hear from Albany, that a Party of 18 Men wentout from Crown Point fome Time fince, in order to make Difcoveries, and that but 4 of ’em had return- ed, {o th:t *twas feared the others were cut off. ‘From Ofwego we learnthat General Johnfon with the ma » Body of his Army was returned there in good Elealth from Niagara, after leavinga fofficient Garri- fon in that Fortrefs, We can-affure the Pablic, That Mon%eur Bompar, with 7 Sail of the Line and one. Frigate, was at Cape Francois the Beginning of July lait, but foon failed from thence for Port au prince ; that he was expett. ed at the Cape again about the Middle of Augnft, from whence he intended to proceed to France with the whole Ficet, and as many Ships as weuld be rea- dy to fail with him.. The Beginning of Augult there were only fix Ships at the Cape, and four Letter of Marque Sloops belonging to Martinique that were bound to Coracoa with Stgar and Indigo. Qut of the Ships was about”6oo Tons, but carried Spanith Papers ; another carried Dacch Papers ; the others real Frenchmen. PORTSMOUT H. L2ft Monday a Maa fell from the Steeple of the Rev. Mr. Parfons’s Meeting Houfe in Newbary, to the Ground, by which he was initantly kill’d. The fame Day, we hear, a Boy was drowned at the above Place.
