March1s: . Laft Saturday Evening arrived here, two ~= French Prize Ships, taken the 18th of Fe- bruary latt, in Lat. 23, 11. Long. 71. 30, by the Privateers Dreadnought, Willet Tay- lor, the Duke of Cumberland, Capt. Lifly, the Hercules, Paul Miller, all of this Port, and the Hawke, Capt. Wright, of Cape-Fear. The oneis called the Grand Jofeph, mount- ing 16 fix Pounders, Burthen 350 Tens, and 36 Men ; the other called L’Eagle, of 20 fix Pounders, Burthen 400 Tons, and 40 Men, both Letters of Marks, loaded with Sugar, Indigo, and Coffee.. Thefe Priva- teers took at the fame Time, another French Ship called the Dolphin, of 20 fix Pounders, 50 Men 500 Tons Burthen, alfo loaded with the like Commodities, and a Letter of Mark. They ftood an Engagement of 3 Glaffes with the Hercules Privateer, when the others com- ing up they ftruck, Capt. Miller lofing one Man, and had 7 wounded. And yefterday Afternoona French Prize Snow, called the ID’Leury, arrived here, un- der Mr. Everfon, taken the 21 of February It by the Sturdy Beggar Privateer, Capt. Troop. She belong’d to Breft, was from the Cape, and is loaded with Sugar andCoffee. The Sturdy Beggar, in company with the King of Pruffia, Capt. Donaldfon, and the Royal Hefter, Capt. Deale, took a, large French Dutchman, the 18th of February laft, called the St. Peter, of between 6 and 700 Ton burthen, loaded with 700 Hogtheads of fugar, 300 cafks of coffce, &c. and had 20 fix pounders ; the captain of her, it is faid, endeavour’d to prevail on his men'to ftand an Engagement, but they refufed, fhe like- wife was from the Cape,& is daily expected. The aforementioned Prizes were part of a fleet of 22 fail that left the cape the 12th of February, under convoy of a 74 Gun Ship, {which was leaded with Indigo) a frigate of 136 guns, and 4 Privateers of diffcrepe force. There were 14 or 16 Englith privateers that Fell in with them ; and we are in hopes of ha- ving a further geod account of them. The Prize Mafter of thefe Ships fay, that when they left the Privaceers they were in Chafe of fome more of the Fleet, thefe being taken toLeeward of the reft : And that there were feveral other Privateers after it. A French Prize Snow taken by the Royal Hefter, is now at the Hook, which makes the 6th Prize taken out of the above Fleet, by New-York Privateers. - We are in Hopes of feeing fome more of the fame Fleet enter this Harbour, as we hear a great Number of our Privateers are in queft of them.
