Bolitho who arrived here lalt Taefday in 7 Weeks from Portfmouth, we learn, That Cofn - modore Kepple, with eight Ships of War, and a Namber of Land Forces, had failed for the Ifland of Goree, on the Coaft of Africa; and that Captain Gilchrift, in His Majefty’s Ship Southampton, had {ent in a French Privateer of great Force, which had taken {cveral Merchantmen. While Captain Bolitho lay at Spithead, there hap- pened a violent Gale of Wind, by which fome Vef- fels were drove athore. He failed from Portfmouth under Convoy of His Majefty's Ships Arundel and Crown, bound to Louifbourg, who had with them a Number of Tranfports with Srores, and about 40 Sail of Merchantmen, for this Place, New-York and South Carolina, and 1 for Bofton. Five Days after he left Portfmouth, he was parted frem the Fleet in a Storm, off of Cape Clear, and from that Time knows nothing of them. ¢ X ‘ _ On Thar{day lalt arrived ‘here the Letter of Marque Sacw Young Samuel, Capt. At Five next Morning he came up again, with a Jarge Stinkpot at his Flying- Jib Boom end, and the Bleody Flag at the Topmatt. head, and at fix the Engagement began afrefh : but Captain Southey gave him fo warm a Reception the fecond Time, that, inftead of offering to board, he judged it moft convenient to fheer off ; Upon this Capt. Scuthey poured his whole Broadfide into him, and took Leave, the Freachman being a meer Wreck, with his Main fheet and Pesk tye fhot a- way. Capt. Southey had one of his Hands killed, and feveral wounded, and himfelf fhot thro® the Left Arm, his Yards, Mafts and Sails, very much " wounded and tore, and five fhot in the Hull. Capt.
