Camp- bell in § Days from ‘Annapolis Royal, who informs, That on Thurfday the 5th Inftant, an Officer arrived there, who had been with Brigadier Monckton, up . the River St. John's, with a Number of Troops from Halifax, to deftroy what Fortreffes the Enemy might have up that River ; but that apon their land- ing they found ‘the old Fort had been evacuated a confiderable Time, as it was entively gone to decay, and Shrabs grown up about ity that there- were con- fiderable Quantities of Timber laying about, of which theBrigadier intended to have eretted a ftrong Fort ; that our Troops had marched near 40 Miles up the River, and difcovered none of the Enemy. Cole from Louifbourg, by a Gentleman who cime Paffcnger we have Iatelligence of the Return of Sir Charles Hardy and General Welfe, ‘with the Men of Wer, Tranfperts and Troops that went on an Expedition, ‘mention’d feveral 'I'imes lately in the public Prints :—An Account of this Expedition is as follows, ‘The Men of War, &c. fail'd for Gaf- pee, a Place nigh the Mouth of “the River St. Lau- rance, wherethe Frenth carried en a large Fithery, but on'their Arrival they found caly 5 or 6 Men, ail the other Inhabitants had quitted it, 20d retired op the River to Canada, they bad Intelligence of the Englifh coming to pay them a Vfit Time enough to go off ; but were obliged to leave fome of their Fifhing Shallops, Boats, and at leaft 25,000 Quin- tals of Cod Filh almoft made, all which, with their Fithing Fences, Flakes, Dwelling Places, the Troops on their Landing laid wafte, and deftroyed every Thing in their Power that could be of Service tothe Enemy :— Thisbeing done thie Tiodps reimbarked on board their refpective Traafports, and with the Men. of War proceeded aboat 30 Leagues up the River St. L awrence, where they met with and took 2 Sloaps, one laden with Provifions and fome Fur, the other was in her Balfatt 5 from the People on board theleSloops Admiiral Hardy gain'd Intelligence, That there were 6 Sail of Line” cf Battle Ships at Quebec, and that they intended to fail for France by the 1oth of Oftober ; Admiral Hardy not having an equal Force to’ prevent the Enemy’s Ships com- ing out of the River, and having Time enough to go for a Reinforcement, proceeded immediately for Louifbourg,“feveral of the Ships came thro’ the Gut of Canfo, and anchor’d off the Harbour on the 2gth of September : Whereapon Admiral Bofcawen in the Morning of the 1ft of O&ober came out with 3 Capital Ships, and join'd Admiral Hardy’s Divifion, which confifted of 5 Sail, and with them failed in or- der to cruize fome Time at the Entrance of the Ri- ver St. Lawreace, for the above French Ships ; and then proceed for England.—The Men of ‘War left behind are to Wigter at Halifax and Louifbourg: The Ganifon of which Place is in good Eealth, and well fupplied with Provifiogsof ali Kinds. N.and Lon. 56. o, Weft from London, he met with a very fevere Hurricane, the Wind at §.°E. which continued from eight o'Clock in the Evening, till two the next Maorning, but re- ceived but little Damage. On the 22d he faw a large Frigate, lying a Hall, having loft her Bow{prit and all her Mafts ; Capt. Dewar was about two or three Miles Diftance from her, and kept his Colours flying, being willing to affit him ; but the Hull fhewed no Signals or Colours, or the leaft Incliffati- on to fpeak to him, and by her Appearance he took her for a Freschman, upon which he tho’t proper to alter his Courfe and leave her : The faid Ship had a leng Stick up for a Jury Main-maft, We hear from the Diftrit of Greenfield, in this Province, that it has been very fickly in that Place, and outof 20 Familics, being the whole Number in faid Town, 23 Perfons have died in about 5 Weeks. By a Gentleman who came in here laf faturday - from Albany, we learn, That fome of the Enemy have appear’d in fmall fcouting Parties between the two Forts, this fide the Lake, but have done no Mif- chief : That the Troops which went from hence under General Amherft, arrived at Green Buth near Albany, lat faturday fe’nnight, where they have encamped, and the General proceeded to the En- campment at Liake George 5 but was fince returned, and may be expe@ed in Town ina Day or two: That the Expedition againft Ticonderoga was laid afide, as the Seafon is {0 far advanced; they having already had'Snow at the Lake ; and that the Troops: are immediately to proceed into Winter Quarters.. *Tis faid the zd Battalion of the Royals, and Col. Frafer’s Highlanders are to be pofted at thé German- Flats, where there is now a very fine Stone Tort erefted ; that Forbes’s, Lafeeil's and Webb's Regi- ments were to be quartered at New 'Vork and Cea- ne&icut, and that General Wolfe, with Ambherft’s, Anftruther’s, and Brags Regiments, lately returned from Gafpey, were to fpend the Winter with us here. Monday Night laft a Fithing Schooner arrived at Marblehead from the Banks, and brooght in with her the Mafter and Crew of a Veflel which founder’d in her Paflage from Holland to Rhode Ifland.—-The faid Mafter informs, that he fail’d the 27th of July laft ; that on the z4th they had Intelligence by an Exprefs, that the KING of Prussia had in'a ge- neral Battle, ebtain’d a compleat Viftory over the Auftrian Army commanded by Count Daun,in which *twas f2id, that 13,000 of the Auftrians were {lain, and the Count himfeif, withabout 30,000 of his Men were taken Prifoners : The above News was publickly declared by the Burghers at Amferdam ; and that on the 26th and 27:h there were great Re- joicings on that Account.— Which, as to the Time, corroboratesthe various Accoants from divers Parts which have already been publithed ; fo that a more partienlar Accountof this important Affair is daily expeéted. : Saturday laft his Excellency the Governor was pleafed to prorogue the General Court or Aflembly of this Province, to Wednefday the zg9th Day of November next, having firft figned his Affent to the following Adts or A&ls, viz.
