At the fame Time his Majefty’s Ships the Edinburgh of 64 Guns, 2ud the Affittance of 50, were in Sight, who I expeted would attack the French Men of War ; but to my great Surprize they did not come within Gun fhot all Day. Troup hail’d the Afliftance, and told the Captain, if he would attack the 74 Gun Ship, he would lay along fide of one of the Frigates, and nail’d his Colours to the Ma#t, determining either to take her, or perifh in the Attempt ; but the Captain of the Affiftance told him to {land on with the other Privateers, and keep in fight of the Fleet, and he would bear down to the Edinburgh, and with her attack the Man of War : But to our great Mortification, after he had fpoke with the Edinburgh, they both bore away for Jamaica, and permitted the Man of War, the two Frigates, and 9 Merchantmen, to go unmolefted into the Cape.
