Leipfig, Dec. 24, 1757 Have the Satisfaltion to acquaint your Lordfhip, I that laft Night an Officer arrived from the King of Pruffia’s Army, with the News that Breflau fur- rendered on the zoth in the Morning ; that the Gar- rifop, confilting of 13 or 14 General Officers, and 10,000 Men bearing Arms, befides 3 or 4000 Sick and Wounded, were all made Prifoners of War. As the Officer fet out before the King made his Entry into the City, he could not tell the Names of the Generals that are Prifoners ; but he tells me, the Traffians loft but Twenty Men in the Approaches v ‘.aey made to Breflau ; and that, on the Night of the 14th, a Magazine of Powder was feton Fire by a Bomb, which occafioned great Confufion among the Befieged,and greatly damaged one of theBattions. The Auftrian Magazine which General Keith de- ftroyed at Leitmeritz,confifted of 4000 Tons of Meal, and a confiderable Quantity of all Sorts of unthrathed Corn. It is faid that among the Officers made Prifoners at Breflau, were found 12 Saxon Officers, whom the King of Pruffia having béfore dilcharged on their Parol of Honour,caufed to be hanged up immediately. The Tranfports are victualling with the utmoft Expedition ; and all the Officers are ordered to join their Corps by a certain Day, on Pain of being cathier’d. It is pofitively afiured, that by the opening of the Spring, the King of Pruffia will be atthe Head of 80,000 Men, proper Meafures being taken for that Purpofe. v A large Fleet of Tranfports and Men of War are lying at Spithead, waiting ouly for failing Orders. Portfmouth, Fan. 2. Wednefday Morning arrived at Spithead the Diana, of 36 Guns, Capt. Schom- berg, who met at Sea the America, Capt. Byron. Some little T'ime before the America fell in with 12 Sail of French Men “of War in the Bay, who chafed her, but as the America went much better than them, fhe foon got clear. The America in her Retreat fell in with a French Frigate of 24 Guns. The Frigate in firing her Chace Guns, by fome Accident blew up, and very few of the Hands were faved. The Ifis Man of War, Capt. Wheeler, has fent in here the Turaine, of and for Rochelle, from St. Domingo. Fan. 12. 'The Roi David, of 400 Tons, from St. Domingo for Bordeaux, is taken by the Conftan- tine and Severn Privateers, of Briftol. She came out with 30 fail, but parted Company with them in bad Weather the 15th of laft Month. Three Hours after the above Capture, a French Frigate of 36 Guns, in bearing down upon the Conftantine and Severn, by fomée Accident overfet, and every Soul perithed. The two Privateers were drawing up their Courfes, and making ready for their Defence, when they faw the Accident happen in tacking, but could give no Affiftance in order to fave any of the Crew. The St. Domingo Man is fent into Briftol, and is a very valuable Capture, having on -board 450 Hog- fheads of Sugar, 100 Tons of Indigo, and other va- luable Fffetts. From the London Gazette, Admiralty Office, Jan. 14. Capt. Lockhart, of the Tartar, is arrived at Ply- mouth with a French Ship and Snow from St. Do- mingo, taken by himfelf, and the Magnanime. The Medway and Leoftoffe are alfo arrived at Plymoath with two French Ships, one of 300 Tons, 8 Guns ; the other 350 Tons, zo Carriage and 10 Swivels, both laden with Provifions for Louifbourg ; the foriner of which was taken by the Sterling Cattle and Effex, the latter by the Leoftoffe, on the zd Inft. A Train is preparing at Woolwich which is to go with a Detachment of the Royal Regiment of Artil- lery to America. They continue hard at Work at the Tower in thipping off Cannon and all kinds of Military Stores, in fuch Quantities as have not been known for many Years ; for which Parpofe near 100 additional Hands are employed. *T'is faid Sir William Johnfon will have the Com- mand of the Attack intended againft Quebec ; and General Amhurft of that againft Louifbourg. This Day thie Engineers and Officers of the Train of Artillery, fet out for Portfmouth, in order to em- bark for North-America. A great Fleet of Men of War and Tranfports are ordered to be ready for failing by the latter End of next Month. On Tuefday the zoth of December ended the Trial of Lieut. General Sir J. Mordaunt, before a General Court Martial, which confifted of twenty- one Members. The Court, after fitting fix Days, finifhed with the Examination of Sir Edward Hawke, which lafted above three Hours, and then proceeded to give their Opinions. . A Body of 10,000 Pruflians have join- ed the Army under Prince Ferdinand ; and Colonel Mayer was marching another Body thro’ Thuringia, for Hefle. The Angelique, with Provifions and Soldiers té Louifbourg, isfent into Plymouth by two Privateers. ~ Two Ships from St. Domingo, and three for Loa- ifbourg, are taken by our Men of War, and brought into Plymouth. KINGSTON, in Jamiica, January 5. By Capt. Mantle, of a Privaceer floop of St. Chrif~ tophers, we have Advice, that while he lay at Aruba, Intelligence was bro’t from Guracoa, that the Ame- lia Privateer, Capt. Grant, belonging to Augaftin Meredith, Efg; of this Town, was taken and carried in there by two Dutch Guarda Coaftas, of 12 and 14 Carriage Guns, 20d 150 Men each, after a very gal- lant Refiftance, in which Captain Grant was danger- oufly wounded. Thofe Veflels were fitted out by the Governor of Coracoa, on purpofe to take the Amelia : The Rea- fon affign’d for which, is, Capt. Grant’s having plun-- dered feveral Dutch Veflels, and particularly, forced one to run under one of their Fortifications for Pro- te@ion, where he fill continued to attack her, and being fired on by the Garrifon, to prevent it, he re- turned their Fire and killed fome of their Soldiers. Thé Captain is now in clofe Confinement, and will be tried for a Breach of the Law of Nations ; not- withftanding which, it is tho’t the Privateer will be reftored to the Ownrer. Saturday laft arrived here his Majefty’s fhip Au- gufta, Arthur Forreft, Efq; Commander, who bro’t in with him the following French Ships, viz. Le Mars, Monfieur Pierre La Ray, 32 Guns, 12, g and 6 pounders. Le Theodore, M. Klievfan Trollo, 2z Guns. La Margureitta, M. Jacques Brochard, 16 Guns. Le St. Pierre, M. Foamon Urbin Aefier-16 Guns. Le Solide, M. Pierre Pavianne, 14 Guns. Le Flofe, M. Oliver Brunneauy, 14 Guns. Le Morrice Le Grand,M. Jean Gondre, 18 Gans. Le Brilliant, M. Guilliam Jandine, 14 Guns. Brigantine Le Mannette, M. Fontaine, 10 Guns. Capt. Forreft got fight of this Fleet on the 23d of December, off Porto-Prince, but having Dutch Co- lours up, the Frenchmen never alter’d their Courfe, imagining it to be 2 Dutch Man of War ; however, Night coming on, Capt. Forreft tacked and ftood after them, and about 11 0’Clock came up with the Le Mars, who ftruck upon Receipt of the firft Broad- fide, the whole Fleet foon following her Example. Thefe Ships were bound from Porto-Prince to Old France, and were going-throngh the Gulph. They areall richly laden with Sugar, Indigo, Coffee, &c. and their Cargoes coft at Porto-Prince 170,000 1. The fame Day arrived here his Majefty’s Sioop of War the Hornet, who bro’t in a {fmall French Priva- teer floop, of 4 Carriage Guns and 8 fwivels, which the took on the North fide of Hifpaniola ; whetefhe alfo drove on fhore, and deftroyed a French privatecr fnow, of 14 Carriage Guns. On Tuefday laft arrived here a large French Let- ter of Marque fhip, mounting 22 Carriage Guns; bound from Bourdeaux to Cape Francois. She was taken and fent into this Port by two New Yorl privateers, after an Engagement of feven Glaffes. Laft Night arrived .a Spanifh Barcelonga, from Carthagena ; the purport of her coming, has not yet tranfpired. PHILADEZLPHI A, March g. Capt. Brown from Carthagena, informs us, that while he was at that Place, a French Privateer came in there; and brought advice, that admiral Coates (zil in with a French ‘Fleet, ‘bound for Hifpaniota from Old-France, took twelve Merchantmen, and drove two Frigates afhore.
