b iy ¥ S ‘., - - - . ¥ = r . Contaim'flg h. By Capt. Sohier, who arrived at Bolton laft Sunday, in 38 ", Days from Briftol, we hawve the following Articles, viz. BerLIN, ( a flrong, noble City of Germany, ) September 6. § HE firft Account we have received of the Altion in Pruffia of the 3oth of laft Month near the - Villages of Norkitten and Staplacken is as fol- lows: That the Ruffian Army, amounting o 80,000 regalar Troops, had chofen a moft ad- « vantageous Camp near Norkitten. It was compofed of four Lines, each of which was defended by an Intrenchment with a numerous Artillery, and Batteries placed upon all the Emi- mences. Notwithftanding fo great a Superiority, Marfhal . - Letiwald determineld ta attack the Enemy with his Army, . Ay - . Was immedidtely replaced by the difciplined Militia. X which hardly confited of 30,000 Men. The Attack began . at Five in the Morning, and was carried on with fo much Vi- ur, that the Pruffians entirely broke the whole firlt Line -of the Enemy, and forced all their Batteries. The Prince of Holftein Gottorp, Brother to the King of Sweden, at the Head of his Regiment of Dragoons, routed the Enemy’s _ Cavalfy, and aftewards fell upon a Regimens of Grenadiers, ‘which was cut to Pieces ; but when the Pruffians came to the fecond Intrenchment, Marfhal Lehwald feeing that ke " could not attempt to carry it without expofing his whole Ar- ‘my, took the Refolution to retire, which he did in the beft Order, and without the Enemy’s daring to flir cat of their Intrenchments to purfue them. The Pruffian Army returned © it’s former Camon at Velaa, where they fill remain ; as do the Enemy intheir Camp. The Lofs of the Pruffians does ndt exceed 2000, killed and wounded, which Lofs how’eI",}fr e Lofs of the Enémy muft be near 14 Thoufand. Gercral Lapuchin was wounded and taken Prifoner, with a Colonel ef the Ruffian Artillery, but the former is fent back on his Parole.. The Prafian Army had at firlt, made themfelves Maers of above 80 Pieces of Cannon, but were aftewards ebliged to abandon them with 17 of their own, for want of Carriages. The Pruflians have loftno General, “or other ©Officer of Diftin@ion. Lieutenant General Count Dohna is the only one wounded. It is faid therearethrée Ruffian Generals kill'd. g Parrs, Aug. 28. N. Mivran, in Italy, Aug. 30. Onthe Gth of this Month was felt here, and in many other Towns, a Shock of an EARTH- <« QUAKE, which being but fljght, was, for that Reafon, not much regarded. But to Day the Affair rfequires more feri- ous Attention ; for we jult now received the difmal News . that the Shock was very violent, and has done great Damage in Sicily ; and that two thirds of Syracufa (‘ence @ wery famous S and noble City; the Meiropolis of Noto) one of the principal Towns in tht [fland, was deftroyed, ahd near twenty five #houfand of the Inhabitants {wallowed vp or buried under the Ruins of their Houfes. ' Amflerdam, Sept.1 2. Since the 5th of this Month, the Army of the Duke of Cumberland has been encamped on ' two Lines near Stade, and the French Troops begin to hem it ih on different fides. LONDON, S, Sir' William Pepperrell, Baronet, is, by His Majefty’s Council, appointed Lieutenant General of the whole Militia of Pennfylvania, and Captain of Caftle- Wil- liam, Sept.10. The French have dethanded an exatt Lift of the Revenues and Impofts in the Ele@torate of Hanovir 5 of ¥ * the Number of Inhabitants, and the Waggons and Horfes they can furnifh ; of the Cattle; of the Wheat,Rye, Barley, ‘Oats, St and Hay ; ‘as alfo of the Capitals and ready Mo- + " _mey which were in the Pofleflion of the {everal Corpbrations | arg that of arfhll Richelien ; at the Time the French Army entered the Eleftorate : All thefe Liflswere to be exhibited within eight Days. Itis obfervable that this Datch Mail brings no Confirma- tion of the Rumour that the Troops of Brunfwick and Hefle- Caffel had left the Duke of Cumberland’s Army, in Confe- quence of their Sovereign’s agreeing to a Neutrality. The Account of the Arrival of the Duke of Cumberland from the Army in Germany, (fo confidently afferted in (ome public Papers) is without the leaft Foundation ; it wds raifed by one of the Centinels, on fecing the Retinae of Prince Ed- ward pafs him, which he took for th.e Duke’s; and what gave agreater Air of Truth to it, was the Report of the four Men of War that were in theElbe being arrived at theNore: "I'The Hagoe Gazette fays, that it was reported there on Tuefday laft, that on the 3d-Inft. there was a {mart Action be- tween the Army d&dmmanded by the Duke of Cumberland which they hourly ex- be leaft Hint who beat. M w IDAY, NovEMRER 25. 1757, , The New-Hampfhire the Frefbeft Advices We hear that the Draughts lately made from all the Re- giments in Scotland are ordered immediately to Glafgow, in order to embark for America. . A f{inall Gurnfey Privateer having taken a French Veffel worth 400 |. off the Coalt of Brittany, the Captain of the Privateer put his Mate with {even Men on beard her to na vigate her into Guernfey ; but in their Paflage (ecing a Sail near Shore, the Mate confulted with his Crew whether they fhould not bear down, and board them i/ poffible, alledging, that the Sail might be as ill provided to tmake a Kefitance, as themfelves were for the Aftempt off boarding ; and the Refolution being agreed to, they accoidingly bore down, and, without any Guns 6t Small Armphoarded the other Frenchman, when one of them knocked down the Man at the Helm, and, after {everely drubbing the French Crew at Boxing, made themfelves Mafters of the fecond French Veflel ; by which Means, inftead of one, they brought two P:izes into Port. 3 Vice and Corruption reigns with us to fuch a Degree, that it is not in the Power of the moft able Penman to exprels it 3 for the Soldiers have made it a Practice to gather thofe poor, unfortunate Wretches, who have been either ruined by falfe Promifes of Men,or deluded by Bawds, and carry them to the Prifon in the Night Time, and there make fale of them to the French ; and if the poor Creatures will not comply, they ufe them ill,and often cat the Cloaths off their Backs. Sept. .17. Some private Letters by the Mail To day mention a fecond Battle between the Pruflians and Ruflians in which the latter are faid to be totally defeated. We hear from Georgia, that the Forufications around Savannah, already begin to make a good Appearance ; near 600 Men having been at work upon them for fome Time : That the Creek Chief, called the Cow Keeper, had lately been at Savannah, with 40 other Creeks, and feemed very well difpofed towards the Englith ; but had been concerned in fome Diftarbances lately given the Spaniards at*St. Auguf- tine, by thofe Indians ; and that Governor Ellis was earneft- ly endeavouring to accommodate the Differences between them, which, 'twas apprehended, wonid be a Work of Dif- ficulty. The laft Accounts from the Creeks, are, That Waw.- hatchee, and above 10e of thofe Indians who went with him to Virginia, are returned ; and we are aflured they have been of very great Service, by preventing the Incurfions and Depredations of the Frenth Indians, upon the Bdrders of that Colony.
