This morning arrived the Baltimore floop of war, froni Halifax, which brings an account, that 18 {ail of French men of war of the line, were cruizing off Cape Breton. 3 The Baltimore {loop is arrived at Port{mouth, fromNova- Scotid. She brings advice that 22 French fhips of the line were blocked vp in Louifbourg harbour by the fquadron un- der Admiral Holbourne. Extralt of a Letter from Briftol, Auguft 27, The Prince Edward man of war is arrived here with thé lofs of her main and mizzen mafts, and very much fhattered, having had an engagement on the z4th with a French frigate of 36 or 40 guns, 26 leagues to the weftward of Scilly, lat. 49 d. 52 m, which was renew’d the next morning, and con- tinu'd till 11 o’clock when the frigate fheered off. It hap- pened unluckily that the Prince Edward had her m2in and mizen mafts fhot away the firlt broadfide, and could never bring any more than five guns to bear on the Frenchmen ; and the fea ran fo high, that fhe could not open her lower ports. She has 10 men killed,and upwards of 40 wounded, feveral of them mortally. When the Engagement begun, they faw twe large fhips, one without her foretop maft, which they took to be French mea of war. ¢ Auguft 26. There was a great council at the Cockpit, at which all the minifters of ftate in town were prefent, and they fat till after four o'cfock on affairs of the greateft im- portance. After the breaking up of this council a_rumour prevailed that fome great perfons were foon to refign their employments.
