Letters from Broffels fayy that the French have threa- tened the Garrifon of Gueldres to grant them no Capita- lations if they do not furrender the Place immediately. It is faid that the four French Men of War and two Frigateslately failed from Toulon, are gone to Turkey, to intercept our Merchantmen expected from thence. A confiderable Train of Artillery,and a Number of Troops, are ordered to be aflembled at or near Plymouth and Corke, for Embarking at a fhort Notice; and are generally believed to be deftined for the Mediterranean. April 26. His Majelty in Council has ordered the Embargo upon all Ships and Veflels going from any of the Ports of Ireland, laden with Beef and Pork, to beta- ken off. The Lightfoot, Capt. Vane, from Virginia, taken by a Bayonne Privateer, has been taken ky the Duke of Bed- . ford Privateer, and carried to Dublin. The Right Hon. Henry Fox will this Week be decla- red Chancellor of the Exchequer ; and the Right Hon. the Earl of Egremont, Secretary of State. Three Ships of a quite néw Fabrick as to Timber, are fetting up at Deptford, Woolwich, and Chatham Yards, to carry 28 Guns each ; andas the utmoft Difpatch will be made, it is expected they will be launched in three or four Months. ; On the 10th Inft. the John and Bella, of Whitehaven, Capt. Green, with Tobacco, arrived at that Place in 8 Days from Haver de Grace, where he was not permit- ted to go on thore ; buta Prieft who came on board, in- formed him, that great Preparations were making ip all the Portg of France, in order to make an Attack upon Virginia, of which he faid they did not doubt but they fhould make a Conqueft, and that then the Reft of our American Pofleflions would become an eafy Prey. April 28. The Landgrave of Hefle, fteadily perfifts to refufe a Paffage for the French thro’ hie Territories. Letters from Spain advife, that fince the Change made in our late Miniftry, frequent Conferences and Councils have been held ; that the Court had ordered 30,000 Mafkets, and a great Number of Swords and ' Bayonets, to be made for the Recruits ; that two Ships were launch- ed at Ferrol, and that {everal others were on the Stocks. May 12. Letters are arrived in town from Captain Fofter, of the Antigallican privateer, giving an account, that his fhip and prize were furrendered into his hands : that foon after he was acquainted that two 74 gun French fhips of war were way-laying him and his prize, of which he took an opportunity to acquaint Admiral Saunders, who promifed to detach a part of his {quadron to engage the faid fhips ; and, when thefe Letters came away, a cannonading was heard off Cadiz, fuppofed ta be between part of Admiral Saunders’sfquadron& the 2 French thips, PeTErssurcH (i Ruffia) March 25. Sir Charles Hanbary Williams, Envoy Extraordinary from the King of Great. Britain, has reczived his Letters of Recall. The Fleet fitted out at Cronftadt, is alually ready to fet fail, and when joined by the Squadron from Revel, will confift of 30 Ships of War, including Frigates and Bomb Veflels. Vienna (the Capital of Germany) April 5. The Army in Bohemia under Prince Charles of Lorrain and Marfhal Brown will be compofed of 73,608 Men, viz. 53,608 Infantry, and zo,000 Cavalry, That in Moravia, com- manded by Count Leopolde dzDaun, will confilt of 70,192 Men, viz. 49,610 Foot, and 20,582 Horfe. Befides which there will bea flying Camp, deftined for the Block- ade of Fortrefles, under the Ccunt de Nadafti, confifting of 15,880 Foot, and 400 Horfe Total 163,680 Men, We expe& eighteen Squadrons from Poland, which are not included in this Number. Welearn from Wefel, ThattheCount de Maillebois has been detached by the Prirce de Soubize with a Body of 3000 French and 400 Auftrians, towards the County of Ritiberg, in order to diflodge the Pruflians who are living there at Difcretion. WiTTENBERG (in Germany) dpril 13. -Some Detach- meats of Pruffian Troops having been fent in Purfuit of the Saxons who lately deferted, brought ona Skirmifh between them, in which about 5o of the Deferters were killed, and the Remainder owed their Efcape to the def- perate Defence, they made, crying out all the while to the Pruffians, that they would neither give or receive any Quarter, : Osnatura, (a'City in Girmany, 75 Miles Weft of Ha- nower) April 15. The Advices that have been received at Hanover, lcave no Room to doubt that the Defign of the French is to march into that Eletorate, the neceffary Preparations are making there for a vigorous Defence. The Pruffian Regiments that are to join the Army of Obfervation, are upon the fall March. Leipsic (a City in Germany, 42 Miles N. W. of Dref- den) April 15. A Courier lately arrived at the King’s Head Quarters, has brought Advice, that the French threaten to take Pofleflion of the Principality of Ealt Friefland, in the fame Manner as they have done of the Dachy of Cleves. 1f this Advice is well grounded, the Pruffian Troops will likewie retire from that Principality, and join the Army of Obfervation. i Paris (the Capital of France) April 19.
