The Ship he took on the 8th of February, in Com- pany with Capt. Canton, of Bermuda, in the Bite of Leogan, bound from Nantz to Porta Prince : She is called the Gaudaioup, Monfieur Philip De Lapedra, Commander, mounts 20 Guns and 32 Men, and ’tis hoped will turn out a valuable Prize. When Captain Bethel left Coracoa, a FrenchPriva- teer was fiting out there: and two others fromMartini- co were daily expedled there allo for the fame Purpofe. On the 27:h of January, off Cape Cruize, Captain Haddon took a fmall French Privateer, Alexander Barnard, Commander, and re took her Prize, a Sloop belonging to Middletown, in Conneflicut, Jonathan Arnold, Mafter, which he ordered for Jamaica, and funk the Privateer, fhe being old, and of little Value. Haddon, fpoke with his Majefty'sShip the Greenwhich, and Jamaica Sloop who informed him that they had been blown off their Station, by fome hard Norths, but were then repairing theirRigging, &c. and intended to wait there in order to intercept a Fleet of 16St. Domingo Men, that were to {ail from the Cape in a few Days without Convoy. Captain Read who arrived here laft Evening from Teywnfend, ( at the Eaftward of this Government) in- forms, that two Indians of the Penobfcot Tribe, came .(by Way of Flag of Truce) to George's Fort, and gave an account of their great Want of Provifion and Ammunifion'; alfo that near one Half of faid Tribe have died the Fall and Winter paft, of the Small Pox.
