Sept. 10, In the late Engagement near Minorca, after the Death of Capt. Andrews on board the Defiance Maa of War, the Command of that Ship devolved of Courfe on Mr. Bithop, the Firft Licotenant, who fought the Ship very gallantly, and behaved himfelf like a true born Eng- libman. After the Engagement was over he was fum- moned on board the Ramilies, and very feverely repri- manded by the Admiral for fighting the Ship without his Orders, ordered to leave the faid Ship, and reduced to the Station of Second Licatenant on board another Ship in the Fleet ;. in which Station he continued till the Arrival of Admiral Hawke; who, being made acquainted with this Affair, immediately ordered Bithop to be reftor’d again to his former Station and Dignity on board the Defiance. We hear his Pruffian majefty has fent a mef- fage to the States general of the United Provinces, in order to know how their High mightinefles intend to behave, in cafe he fhould be obliged to come to an open rupture with the houfe of Auftria; and fhould be attacked at the fame time by the French, in confequence of the treaty of Ver- failles ; and it is faid the Proflian monarch required an an- {wer from the States in eight days. There are two or three Letters in Town To-day frony’ on board Admiral Bofcawen’s Fleet, dated the 28h ult. which gave an Account that they had fallen in with a Fleet of homeward bound Martineco Ships, and taken eight of them ; and had alfo taken eleven Tranfports, and {unk two, which were going to Breft.
