Feminine Feud In Illinois Politics Promises to Become Bitter Fight Chicago, Sept. 5 (P—The feminine feud of Illinois politics today a assuming proportions of a nahondl precedent. With Mrs. Lottie Holman O'Neill entered as an independent candidate for the United States senate, op- posing Congresswoman Ruth Hanna | McCormick, republican, and James Hamilton Lewis, democrat, the first picture of two - women contesting | with a man for high office is paint- ed into national history. Takes Dry Stand Mrs. O'Neill predicated her czn-! didacy on what she termed the dis- | satisfaction of “the dry people of | Illinois with the declaration of the | republican state convention” on pro- hibition. That declaration bound the party candidate, Mrs. McCormick, to abide by the decision of the voters in the wet and dry referendum to be taken in November. Mrs. O'Neill, Illinois' first woman legislator, has heretofore sought of- fice as a republican. McCormick's answer to the challenge of her new foe was a statement from Springfield, where she arxived last night on her tour of the state with other republican can didates and leaders.
