" BLIND FLYING TEST PROVES PRACTICAL Huge Transport Plane Makes Hop by Radio Beam Detroit, Aug. 8 (—A , transport pilot brought a tri-motor plane load- ed with 10 passengers from Chicago te Detroig last night flying “blind,” guided only by his instruments and direetda radio beams. The pilot, W. E. “Slim" of the §tout Airplanes, was sealed up ir his cabin in front of the plane while over the municipal airport at Chicago, leaving only a small space for his observe to watch for ap- proaching planes. Keeping his plane balanced by instruments, he guided his course by a federal gov- ernment air mail radio beam as far 8s Laporte, Ind., from there he flew by compass until he picked up a di- rectional beam from the Ford air- ar Jackson, Mich.
