v v RED INQUISITORS ADJOURN SESSION Civil Liberties Union Agent Attacks Chicago Police Chicago, July 30 (UP)—The con- gressiona] committee investigating communistic activities in the United States, after ending its session here in & heated argument, was in ad- journment today until September. Rep. Hamilton Fish of New York, chairman of the committee, said th: investigation would be resumed | probably in Los Angeles or Wash- ington, D. C. Among the more nesses who appeared before Rep. Fish and his fellow congressmen yesterday was Arthur Fisher, presi- dent of the Civil Liberties league. So aroused was Rep. John A. Nei- son of Maine over an attack made by Fisher on the Chicago police de- partment that Nelson rushed from the committee room. Spectators at the hearing at- tempted to demonstrate ahd were quieted by police after Fisher charg- | ed communists had been “persecut- ed and subjected to -injust and cruel treatment” in Chicago. He said the Civil Liberties league was in no way connected with com- munistic organizations, but that its members sympathized with the com- munists for the “inhumane trea: ment they have many times recei ed from Chicago police.” | “Iron Man” John Alcock, acting police commissioner, told the com- mittee that communism is on the increase here, but that the poli “have the situation well in hand.” Police Lieutenant Make Mills, who pupervises Chicago communistic ac- tivities, said he believed communism | presents no particular danger to America. Fisher is a director of the Amal- gamated Trust and Savings bank, which he said carries several ac- counts of the Amtorg Trading com- pany, American commercial subsidi- ary of the Russian Soviet govern- ment. militant wit- | Italian Specials Udine, Biauzzi, July 30 (UP)—Enrico 10, and his cousin Gina Biauzzi, §, were dying today from | injuries they received when an| army motor truck struck the door | of their house in the Commune of | Calalzo Carnico. | Catanzaro.
