RACE PREJUDICE Says American “Christians” Shun Negro “Brothers” Bournemouth, Eng, July 7 (P— Race prejudice in America held the attention of the International Con-| gregational council this morning. The topic for discussion was “Church | | and World Paganism” with Dr. George L. Cady of New York as the | principal speaker. There is no room for race preju- | dice and Jesus Christ in the sa church, he held, yet Christians were at present attempting to make room | for both. In America, he said, the! Negro was shut out from a large number of Christian churches of the north and from many more of those | in the south. | Two Faced Attitude “On the one hand we profess brotherhood, and on the other we| deny it," he challenged. “People | wlill not believe in the Christianit which the church ip practice repu diates.” The churches, Dr. Cady concluded, | would be unable to fight world| paganism effectively so long as the church repudiated the Christianity | which it possessed by not practicing Christian brotherhood between the races. While castigating conditions in America, Dr. Cady at the pointed out that the pro America was a graver one than it| is in England. It was quite com- mon, he said, for visitors to criticize | America in regard to race relations, but circumstances were different where the colored population was so small relatively as it is in England.
