EW BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, TU o SDAY, JULY g PROVISES 10 PAY - FOR RISH BONDS Minister Blythe Says Republic Will Make Complete Return Dublin, July 2 (UP)—American holders of Irish republican bonds issued in the United States before the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1922 will be paid in full, Ernest Blythe, Irish Tree State minister of finance, told the United States in an exclusve interview. Much interese was aroused in the Free State by recent dispatches from New York regarding the final re- funds on the honds. A number of {persons now in Ireland—chicfly re- turned Irish-Americans—own the honds. But most of them have made no claim for a refund and have been holding them merely as a souvenir under the impression that the script cannot now be convertible into cash. Denies They Are Souvenirs Blythe said that they were m taken in such a belief, and added that he wished to make it clear that if any persons in the United States also hold the bonds as souvenirs, they also will be able to convert their certificates into cash eventual- ly the the “It is the settled policy of Tree State government that American subscribers to the Dail Eireann shall be paid, not merely 60 cents on the Wollar, but to the full extent of the dollar,” Blythe said. “The Free State government fs now awaiting the completion of the receiver’s task in the American courts. When the American courts certify that all the funds held by the court have been refunded, on what- ever percentage basis may be arriv- jed at, the Free State inistry of finance proposes to establish ma- 'chinery in New York to make good 10 all the subscribers the balance of the sums subscribed.” Points Out Dificultics Tt will he necessary. Biythe pointed out, for officials of the ¥Free State to make a thorough examination of all accounts and rec- ords held by the American col#'s and be supplied with a list he names of all subscribers together with the amount of their rip- tions and the amount of refunds al- ready made. hat will take some time. Biythe said, “but once it has heen checked, the Free State government will proceed immediately to establish a connection with one of the big New York banking houses. which with the cooperation of the Dublin government will be asked to settle all the claims in full.” About $1,000 Invested Here Local investments in Irish Repub- lican bonds amount to about $1,000 at the present time, according to the best calculation of members of the committee who handled the sale in this city eight or nine years ~o.
