Before he becomes as- sured of the Herald trip to Occan PAUL TONTORSKI Defeats School Champs City, N. J., next month, Paul will be required to meet a number of \ other school champions and demon- strate his skill and keeness of sight. George Mazur of 58 Oakland ave- ue, who became champion of ‘{'firm Putnam school, is only ninc years of age. He is a small boy but he is Tight there with the goods when it comes to popping his op- ponent’s marble out of the ring. e ‘ has deveolped a knack of holding his own shooter in the ring thus giv- ng him an advantage over his op- ponent. At the Putnam school he contend-| ed for the championship against Edwin Mercier, who last year was champion of 8t. Mary's school. Mer- cer was no match for George. Yater he was hard pressed by W ter Plocharczyk of 98 Gover street and Stanley Wsilewski of Governor street but finally won * | stocky, vor of Mavek to the very last shot. J. Winer was referce. There was & big gallery at the school, teachers and even the janitor being found among the cheering squad. Tontorski then played George Ma- zur, the champion of the Putnam school in the inter-school game. Ma- zur was easy picking for the Walnut Hill boy, who knocked Mazur's shooter out of the ring before the latter got a marble, thus ‘winning on a score of 13-0. Ry this time Tontorski was going ahead like a house afire and his next victim was Willard Bell, champion of the Stanley school. Again there ensued an exciting and hard fought contest. Kach bhoy in turn popped the other fellow's migs until the score finally stood 6-6 with one sole marble, the deciding issue of the game, still in the ring. It had been 1-1, and 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5 and final- ly 6-6 all through the game. A fatal miss by Bell and Tontorski knocked out the seventh mig and won the game. A complaint that the boys were not all aware of the schedule was made to Willlam W. T. Squire, Ju- nior Achievement director who has charge of the games, by the princi- pal of one of the schools. Mr. !Squire’s reply was that each princi- pal gefs a special letter and the hehedule is published in the Herald. That is all the notice considercd nec- essary. Tonight, it the storm clears up. there will be games at the Northend school. 5 MINISTER DEFENDS ATTACK ON ANTHEN Huntington Pastor Says “Star Spangled Banner” Glorities War Huntington.
