Social Activities About ‘Gown February Ball at Shuttle Meadow Tonight Fails to Attract Usual Throng of Diners and Dancers— Holiday Welcomed With Various Festive Occasions—Other Notes of Interest. EW BRITAIN society has a round of entertaining this week starting off with many luncheons on Monday and ending tonight with a dinner dance at the Shuttle Meadow club. Mrs. Maxwell Porter is giving one of the largest parties, her guests tc number 38, including the members of two of the Monday current events classes. B. H. McElhone has taken a table for 10 und the Howard Eruemmers have 14 reservations. Most likely several of the school and college set home for the holiday weck-end will join the party adding a bit of gaiety and color, Si-Yafte is to play and dinuer will be served at the usual hour of 7:30 o’clock. N & ORSE back riding, snow shoeing, skiing and sliding made yesterday a gala holiday for the winter sport followers. Especially in Berlin were the bridle trails popular, here the local school set as well as those from nearby preparatory schools and colleges made the most of the snow covered paths. _For the older set, luncheon parties, followed by bridge or a holiday matinee provided a happy diversion. Evening parties yester. day were many, both dinner and supper gatherings, followed by card games of one sort or another, the theater or the picture show. Decorations at the various festive funetions throughout the week featured-the George Washington metif, the traditional hatchet, the cherry tree and the red, white and blue colors. LIRS I REAT interest is shown'in the annual Wennerberg Male Chorus concert, which: will take place at the Strand theater, Sunday afternoon, March 10. Unfortunately the season’s last Kellogg coneart featuring John Charles Thomas occurs on the same day. New Britainites, however, have a soft spot in their hearts for Lillian Gustafson who appears with the Wennerberg Male Chorus. Eric Demander, violinist, and another favorite in musical circles is also featured on the program and it goes without saying that the local concert will bring forth a gala attendance. John A. Lindsay will conduct the singers and Frank Olsor: is acting as manager, - 'HE outstanding event of next week’s club calendar will be the regular monthly meeting of the Esther Stanley chapter, Daughters of the Amgerican Revolution. Mrs. James North opens her home on Sunnyledge for this occasion on Friday ‘the first of March and will be assisted in entertaining the club members by Mrs. William E. Atwood, Mrs. James E. Céoper and Mrs. James H. Robinson. “Ellis Island” is to be the subject discussed by Susan Latimer, who is the state chairman of Ellis Island.
