< | FORD MAY APPEAL PRISON SENTENCE Wiiess Sand - Bridgeport, Dec. 13 (A—Emilic W. Ford, 55 a Greenwich painter, has signified intention of appealing to the superior court of errors a statc prison sentence of one to two ye meted out to him in criminal s perior court yesterday afternoon by Judge Athur F. Ells. A $5,000 bond was posted assuring Ford's liber'y until the appeal decided. Yord, who won fame in his home | town for the daring rescue from drowning of several persons in and ahout Sound Beach, is claimed by the stpte to have operated an in- strument of death on September, 19, 8 when on Sound Beach avenue, his car struck and fatally injured Miss Shirley Trine, 16, of Sound Reach and crippled her companion, Miss Ruth E. Van Wynen, also of Sound Beach. Found Guil Judge Ells after a trial in which T'ord failed to take fhe stand in his own behalf, found him guilty of wilful misconduct in the operation of a motor vehicle so as to cause death and of evading responsibility for the death. Ford’s conviction was reached chiefly through the painstaking vf- forts of County Detective William & Kearns who spent much time in piecing into a shattered headlight on Lis car, pivces of glass found in the road on the scene of the accident. | The glass discovered and placed to- | gether by Detective Kearns to- gether with the shattered ! headlight found on Ford's ear short- after the police investigation into the death started was shown to Judge Ells during trial. In sentencing Ford, Judge Ells, basing his authority on a recent su- preme court finding, commented upon the fact that Ford's fallure to take the stand in refutation oof the purely circumstantial e against him weighe consid, “in the finding of guilty.” ence Finnish Government | Quits After Censnre Helsingfors, Finland, Dec P The government resigned today after a vote of censure passed in the diet last night. | The motion of censure, offered hy the socialists, was passed by a vote of 83 to 82.
