Paris, Oct. 26 (UP)—One of sights for Americans in France, in Jardin des Plantes—which is another name for the Paris Zoo—may become a thing of the past if the authorities do not agree to spend more money on the care of the animals. Many visitors to the Zoo have ex- pressed outraged opinions on the conditions in which the beasts are housed and an agitation on this score has now been begun in the French Press. The demand is made that either the government, as the authority ultimately resmponsible, should spend more money towards easing the conditions under which the lions, bears, monkeys et celera live or else close the place up al- together. “The poverty of the Paris Zoo is an intolerable shame,” one writer remarks. “There is need for a per- -~ sonnel three times as large as exists, while most of the animal houses re- quire to be reconstructed. “The money gained on entry fees is hardly sufficient to buy food for the animals. If the state does not consider the place worthy of its in- terest, it should sell the menageric to the first travelling circus.” HOSIERY $1.50 UP KERCHIEFS | AN EVENT .
