(] - [==] NEW BRITAIN HERALD NEW BRITAIN CONNECTICUT, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1928, HOME PROGRESS EXPOSITION OPENS TOMORROW AT THE STANLEY ARENA , Display of Merchandise to Be Combined With Fashion Shows and Entertainment. - More Than 50 Booths Re- served — Community Chest to Receive Part of Receipts—Runs Through Week. A wide range of general merchan- dise, part of which will be of in- terest to the prospective home- builder, and part intriguing to the lover of fine arts and fashions, will be displayed to that part of the public which grasps the opportunity of attending the Home Progress Ex- position to be held in the Stanley Arena beginning tomorrow night and closing late Saturday, Many mer- chants have contracted for booths in the arena where they will display their wares, among which will be products made in New Britain, such as the Landers’ line of electrical gods, jewelry, clothing, household appliances, builder's material and so forth. The banks of the city have also arranged for an exhiblt, in- structive in nature, and there will be a booth given over to the Com- munity Chest where those interested may become more closely acquaint- ed with the work of the Community Fund. As an additional attraction those in charge of the exhibit have ar- ranged a program of entertainment, varied in character, and said to be most promising. ‘There are over 50 booths in the arena which have been reserved for the displays of many local firms. Several local institutions such as the Y. M. C. A, the Y. W. C. A, the Boy and Girls Scouts and the Junior Achievement will participate. Civic clubs also are co-operating. (1 booth). Dairy products Opens Tomorrow Night ‘The affair will be opened tomor- row evening with a short ceremony early in the evening. Mayor Paonessa and Steve Robb, president of the Chamber of Commerce, will give short talks and it is hoped that either Governor Trumbull or a representative will also be on the program of speeches, as the gov- ernor has been invited. The pro- gram will be broadcast from station WTIC in Hartford on a remote control hookup. It will conta.n, besides the speeches several sclec- tions by the orchestra of Jchn L. Sullivan, a group of songs by a male quartet, songs by Nelligan and Havens, cgtume entertainers and a brief concert. Music will be fur- nished throughout the four evenings of the show; otherwise the program will be changed every day. A fashion show, usually of great interest to women, will be held on Thursday and . Friday evenings of the exhibit, professional models to wear the gowns. There has been built a long runway from the stage down the center isle of booths in or- der to facilitate the showing of the clothes which will be furnished by New Britain shops through ar- rangement with the wholesalers. Upon their first appearance the models will display a eelection of furs in coats and scarfs and of fall clothing including hats and gowns, hosiery and shoes. Their exhibit will not be limited to fall and winter wear. On another evening they will show sports clothing of various kinds. In addition to the fashion sh.ws there will be a sprinkling of vaude- ville acts throughout the entire pro- gram. The admission fee will be |\ 25 cents for adults and 10 for chil- dren, but it is expected that the hundreds, or thousands attending, will swell the total taken in to an agreeable addition to the chest. It is not hoped to make any profit frem |y the affair after all expenses have been paid. Thousands of compli- mentary tickets have been distribut- ed gratis to school children through the Chamber of Commerce offices. Of the six booths in the arena || offered to the clvic clubs, the Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, Exchange, Probus and American Legion, but one has been reserved by them, the others | & having been turned over to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Y.
