G i R S0 ! DU PONT T0 FIGHT PROHIBITION LAW Has Been Granted Leave by General Motors New York, Aug. 10 (A —Pierre S. Du Pont, chairman of the board of General Motors Corporation, has been granted a leave of absence and will fight the prohibition law, Alfred P, Sloan, Jr., president of General Motors, said the board had rejected Mr. Du Pont's resignation, which he had preferred because he did not wish his activitias as vice president and director of the asso- ciation against the prohibition amendment to embarrass the cor- poration. “The board felt that the position of the corporation, having been -stated, was understood and that all | should appreciate that Mr. Du Pon’ts activities in connection with that association's work are entirely those of an individual and did not concern the corporation,” Mr. Sloan said In his announcement, Not Accepted “His resignation was therefore not accepted and Mr. Du Pont was accorded a leave of absence in- stead,” the statement added. It was announced Mr. Du Pont would issue another statement today in which, associates said, he would come out in support of the presi- dential candidacy of Governor 8mith. The granting of the leave of ab- sence to Mr. Du Pont follows close- ly the resignation of John J. Ras- kob, chairman of the democratic national committee, from the chair- manship of the finance committee and as a member of the executive committee, Raskob is Assoclate Mr. Raskob and Mr. Du Pont have been associated for years in the E. I. Du Pont De Nemours and Company, Inc., powder company and are two of the largest holders of General Motors stock.
