Bolton, head of the de- partment of psychology of Temple university, today analyzed the char- acters of Herbert Hoover and Gov- ernor Alfred E. Smith from their facial expressions. “The Hoover face is an extraordi- narily strong one,” Dr. Colton said. “First of all, it is intellectual rathe than emotional. Intelligence is in- dicated generally by the develop- ment of the forehead, nose, chin and then the eves. The forehead is rea- sonably full and high, the nose rises well above the face level and pro- iects forward farther than the eve- lids when the eyes are open. The eyes are clear, fairly open and filled with slight movements. The chin is In a vertical line with the face neith- er projecting nor receding much from this line. In Harmony *“Hoover's mouth is only just in harmony With the face. It shows no #pecial character of its own nor any development in the line which mouths take. It falls easily into a smile, but its winning qualities do not depend upen a beckoning smile.” The professor said Governor €mith's face combines idealism and a kind of practical common sense in a blend the psychologist has not known hefore. “Forehead, eyes, nose and mouth stand out,” he sald. “The project- ing forehead betokens intelligence and ideal strivings. His nose be- longs with the great noses of the great peoples of the world, the Greeks, Romans and Jews. Tt rises well above the face, showing strength and intellect, Kindly Eyes “In the eye and mouth, the fac of Governor Smith shows its great est features. His eyes are so kind- 1y, =0 persuasive and reassuring one might be misled into thinking they alone could have wrought the carcer the governor has lived.
