Bas- com Slemp, former secretary to President Coolidge, predicted today that Herbert Hoover would be nom« inated by the republican convention at Kansas City, perhaps on the first ballot. “I construe Secretary Mellon's re- cent statement as leading directly to the nominatfon of Hoover,” said Slemp.
