STOGK S POPULAR “Two Million Shares Change Hands Daring Rise New York, March 9 (#—The m teoric advance of the common stock of General Motors Corporation from $137.50 a share one week ago today to $151.50 yesterday riveted atten. tion on the remarkable romance in the rise of the company. In the week, approximately 2,000,000 shares of the stock changed hands on the New York Stock Exchange, and the aggregate quoted value . of the 17,400,000 shares = outstanding, has record an appreciation in’value of nearly $350,000,000 since the first of the year. 4 B Fourteen years ago, 100 shares General Motors common cost $6,800, assuming that the stock was = pur- chased at the average price ob- taining in 1914. Rapid expansions, both in the price of individual shares and through numerous stock divi- dends, has raised the present value of this original investment to $636,- 000, an increase of 9,353 per cent in 14 years, The 100 shares which could have heen purchased in 1914 at around 368 each, now are represented by § 4,240 shares, worth at current prices more than $150 each. On this stock, at the regular $5 rate, annual divi- dends amount to $21,200, or more than three times the original invest- ment in the issue.
