Social Activities About Gown Gay Nineties Costume Ball at Shuttle Meadow Club 'onight—Commonwealth Club Hplds 20th Anni- versary Meeting—Bridges, Tegs, Luncheons and Supper ‘PWiei Make Festive eel Events of the past week have indeed been numerous, so many interesting parties were given that society was kept con- M&y on the go. Bridge, teas and luncheons headed the long list of affairs—most of them taking place in town but still others occurring elsewhere, claiming at thé same time the at- tendance of several New Britain people. "No-host parties are also much in vogue these days—a delightful mode of entertain- ing, since such a party can be arranged on the spur of the moment and no one person bears the burden of its success. That depends on you. L Perhaps the primary interest 6f many local society folk this week has been the Gay Nineties Costume Ball which takes ace at the Shuttle Meadow club tonight. The affair sponsored y the Intermediate Current Events Class is sure to be & record breaking success. More than 100 invitations have been issued for dinner and dancing. The dancing will take place at the club house while the dinner parties occur at the residences of the Current Events club members. No doubt the costumes worn by the ladies and gentlemen of the party will afford the most amusement, since they will depict the unusual styles (from a modern standpoint) popular in the mauve decade. Picture a gayer scene! Mrs, Harold Hatch, Mrs. Louis Young, Mrs. Stanley Eddy, Mrs. R. C. Germond, and Mrs. Charles Stanley will be the dinner hostesses as will Mrs. Walter Hart, who is entertaining for the chaperons at her home on Hart * * Of much interest to New Britain is the approaching mar- riage of Kendall Mills, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert L. Mills of Curtis street, and Miss Adelaide Louise Taggart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Lewthwaite Taggart of Kansas City, Missouri. The ceremony will take place at 8:30 o’clock Satur- day evening, February 11, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Taggart. L * * @ “Guest Night” of the Esther Stanley chapter, Daughters of the American®Revolution, Mrs. Howard Parsons, regent, will be one of the important functions of next week, taking place in the ball room of the Burritt Hotel on Friday, February 4 at 8 o'clock. It is sure to attract a large group of men and women prominent in the social and club life of the city. Everyone will be interested to learn that Robert Craig of Hart- ford, formerly of the Student Prince musical show, is to appear on the program with Dr. Louis Anspacher who needs no in- troduction.
