MISS LILLIAN THOMAS Miss Thomas, whose engagement to Bernard W. Kalkner of Bristol was announced recently, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thomas. Social Activities About “Gown Intermediate Current Events Club to Give a Gala Costume Party — Mrs, Harold Parsons Elected Chairman of Golf Committee — Woman’s Club to Meet Tuesday. Social interest, for the moment, centers delightedly in the costume party which the Intermediate Current Events Club will | give at the Shuttle Meadow club on Saturday, January 28th, to| the members of the Senior and Junior Current Events clubs. Mrs. Ralph Howe and Mys. Stanley Eddy are in charge of the party and have issued novel invitations. The affair is called a “Gay Nineties Ball” and as the name suggests the costumes will be of a mode dating back more than a quarter of a century. Al- most 150 cards have been sent out. The ball room of the club is to resemble as near as possible one of an earlier date. That, in addition to the large number of dancers, each attired in the lat- est fashion of the day assures a most interesting and entertain- ing ensemble. The dancing which starts at the club house at 9:30 will be preceded by a number of home dinner parties with Mrs. Louis W. Young, Mrs. Stanley Eddy, Mrs. R. C. Germond, Mrs. Hatold Hatch and Mrs. Charles Stanley acting as host- esses. Mrs. Walter Hart will give a dinner party to the chaper- ons including Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Parsons, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bartlett, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Searle, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hart, Mr, and Mrs. Norman Cooley, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Pelton, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vibberts, Mr. and Mrs. William L. Hatch, and :r:t. Valentine Chamberlain. All in all it sounds like a very gay y. s & ° When the golf season is formally opened at the Shuttle Meadow club this spring it is probable that a t many more younger women will enter into the sport. Mrs. Harold Parsons, runner up in the finals in the championship match at the club last season, was elected chairman of the Ladies’ Golf Committee of the Shuttle Meadow club at a luncheon meeting held on Tues- day at the club house and will carry on the work of the retiring | chairman, Mrs. Ralph Howe, who is responsible for quite a bit | of the increased enthusiasm in this favorite old sport. Mrs.| Howe and her committee, Mrs. Philip Stanley, Mrs. Louis| Young, Mrs. Russell Germond and Mrs. Parsons, have worked | vealously all year with most favorable results. Interesting | match plays were arranged and tournaments of one sort or an- | other have done much to kesp Ep .': somewhat lagging interest.
