MRS. WiLuurt GILBERT Mrs. Gilbert returned on Wednesday to her home in Beau- mont, Texas after spending two weeks in town with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Buell B. Bassett of Emmons Place, Social Activities About Gown Holiday Gaieties are Followed by Decided Lull in the Social World—School and College Set Return— D. A, R. Meets—New Britain People Plan Extended Trips and Cruises, The holiday parties have indeed been npmerous, so many festivities were given that society was keit busy hurrying from one affair to another. The New Year's Pay celebration at the Shuttle Meadow club claimed the city’s largest gathering of diners and dancers, the number totalling almost 400—truly a record breaking attendance. Dancing followed the supper hour lasting until nine o'click. The gaieties did not halt then for a II.T number of people left the club house to visit the hotels and night clubs where a few more l:om;s of dancing was enjoyed. This wo& things will quiet down a bit. Every s0es & group of the younger set returning to school after the mid- winter recess, half reluctant to leave such a gay season in town, but anxious to see friends ax.ld x:)on.xmates at school. As is usual at this time of the year small impromptu parties are numerous and they will claim the attention of society not only the remaining days of this month but well into February. In fact there isn’t even a whisper of but one or two really large parties from now until after the Lenten season. The lack of colossal social events follows no doubt, the fact that a great many New Britain’s socially prominent people are to be away from town. Belleair, Miami, Tampa, as well as journeys over the water are much in vogue, trips across the continent or by way of the Panama canal to California claim many, while Egypt, the Riviera and Vien:m :vill.be a haven to others. With the various clubs in town perhaps the meeting of the Esther Stanley chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution coming on Friday, January 6 at the residence of Mrs. Walter H. Hart was the most important of the week. An entertaining lecture on “An Interesting Corner of Colonial Connecticut” was given by Mrs. William P. Felt. Looking a bit ahead on the calendar there is scheduled for February 3 a guest night, takmfi place at the Burritt Hotel. Dr. Louis K. Anspacker is to tall on “The Mob and the Movies.” Mrs. William F. Brooks, Mrs. Frank H. Alvord, Mrs. Parker W. Fairbank, Mrs. E. Clayton Goodwin, Mrs. James B, Thomson, Mrs. Frank J, Wachter and Mrs. Edmund L. Warren are to be the hostesses.
