ADOPTTWO TEAM FODTBALL SYSTEM Mickigan Takes he Inative in, New Gollege Movement Chicago, Dec. 6 P—The two team football system is to become a real- ity in the big ten next fall, with Michigan taking the initiative. Towa also has announced defiinitc plans for a second team. Flelding H. Yost, director of ath letics, and Dr. Clarence Cook Little, president of Michigan, have an- nounced that games for the second Michigan team are being sought among both conference and non- conference schools. The two teams will be rated as first and second for the 1928 season, the Michigan authorities said, but eventually they are to b devcloped into two squads of equal power. Wisconsin is considering the team" plan, also. George Huff, director of athletics, and Robert C. Zuppke, football coach at the University of Illinois, were a bit skeptical of the success of the scheme. Ot all the conference coaches in the season just closed, e could perhaps come the senting two fairly two squads, needing no the crowds. The “two-team™ plan 1s a fine thing for schools with big unde graduate enrollments, A. S ot Chicago, dean of the b n coaches, said, but not for him. He pointed out that conference rules specify football games on cight days of the fall term, with no limit on the number of ga a team may play on each day, if it wishes. One of the teams always will b regard- ¢d as the varsity and the other the second team, Stagg said, for conference champiouship purposes. | The system has it advantage in giving opportunitie for more stu-| dents to play, Stagg said. Minnesota, has no two-team plans for 1928, I'red Luehring, dircctor cs, said, adding that his must e taken to mean that the oxper- | might not be tried there next Sooner or later all the big ten chools will have at least a partial schedule for a second team, in rh.—‘ opinion of Major John L.
