WHEN_YoU WAKE UP ON A NEW BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1927, PAWNEES PROTEST BLUES' VITORY ;cmim Two Oficials Were In- efficient in Rendering Decisions The Pawnee football team has | protested the game played with the |New Britain Blues at Memorial| |feld tn Willow Brook park last Sunday afternoon. The contest re- |sulted in a 14 to 0 victory for the |Blues following two touchdowns. The Pawnees base thelr protest on two decisions rendered by the um- pire and head linesman, respective- | ;ly, both of whom are members of the Rangers A. C. under whose !colors the Blues eleven plays. | The specific instances mentioned were when Quarti caught a punt |and raced the length of the field {for a touchdown. Umpire Recor |called the ball back stating that Quart! had stepped outside of |pounds. The Pawnees argued this !point and then, they say, Umpire |Recor changed his decision and |stated that a Pawnee player had clipped 2 Blue man from the rear. The Pawnees were penalized 15 yards into the bargain. another decision rendered by | Linesman Jack Argosy stopped | Barta after he had recovered a fum- | ble and had got away for a clear jrun over the Blues' goal line, “T’:n\'nm‘s claim that Linesman ‘;:n.i\"s decision was not made it was seen that Barta was aw: | The Pawnees do not claim that| the adverse decisions were made in- tentfonally, but they do claim that ! the two officials were inefficient and | unacquainted with the rules of | |football. With the fight goes |the mythical light heavyweight | championship of New Haven which mcans a great | deal. 3at Battalino is on the shert end of the betting as far as the Newark backers of Philly Griffin are con- cerned. Griffin has a long string of ictories to his credit and he is fa- miliar with Battalino's style of | fighting. His handlers have him drawn down to a fine condition for the battle. Battalino fs in good | shape despite his long layoff and he | is punching as hard as ever. They | will meet in the semi-tinel of six rounds and it is doubtful if the fight will go the limit. Portell and Angelo, the two Franks from Hartford will furnish another six-round feature. The Providence Steamrollers, the only National Football league team in New England, will play the All- New Britain football team &t Memorial field in Willow Brook park on Sunday, December 11, if the local eleven comes through and wins the third and deciding game with the Hartford team next Sun- Manager Ed Dailey of the New Britain club and Man- ager Coppens of the Providence eleven agreed on terms for the game over the telephone last night, the one provision being of course, that New Britain beat Hartford for the state championship. The game be- tween the locals and the Rhode Is- land club will be for the New Eng- land professional football title. New Britain and Hartford will meet in the third game at Memorlal Fleld in Willow Brook park next Sunday afternoon. Jach team has won one game, Hartford taking the contest played at the Velodrome a | week ago last Sunday by the ecore of 13 to 0 while New Britain evened up the count in this city last Sunday by the score of 9 to 0. Practice on Friday night of this week has been called off and New Britain will hold a workout Sunday This change has Some here Friday becanse of basketball games while on Sunday morning, the entire team will he present for the session, Several weaknesses in New Brit- ain's attack of last Sunday have bheen discover by Coach Dave These cropped out in last Sunday’s game and efforts will be made to correct them for the game Sunday afternoon. The play of the line was satisfactory and the squa will be cautioned to he on the alert again this week-end for the plays of {the Hartford club. Fans who have seen the last two games are in a quandary asto which club appears to be the better one. New Britain outplayed Hartford last Sunday but the reverse was the or- der the previous week. If both teams should get going at their pro- per pace next Sunday, a great game is fn store for the fans who are planning to watch the contest. The game will be played on the local fleld, according to the local promoters. The contract between the condition of the gridiron at the Velodrome {n Hartford and the field here, is so great that even the Hart- ford players agree that the game should be played here. The same set of officlals will be in charge of the game thls week and the kickoff will take place at 2 o'clock.
