"KING’ FINED $200 ONBOOTLEG COUNT Vernale Gonvicted on Strength of Cache in Cornfield ! Antonlo Vernale, of High street, also known as “Tony Vanelli, King of Bootleggers," owner of what the police believe to be the source of 2 large portion of the alcohol sup- | ply of New Britain, which was found stored in a cornfleld near No 2 reservoir in Farmington Friday, was fined $200 and costs by Judge J. E. Hewes in borough court at Farmington last evening. Leon Arz- arigian, owner of the field, was fincd 210 and costs for renting property for illegal business. Vernale was arrested when his sacret hiding place was discovered by Sergeants Thomas J. Feeney and Patrick J. O'Mara of the New Brit- ain police department and Officer Nathan W. Fuller of the Farming-| ton force. The New Britain police | received information that Vernale ! was having alcohol delivered to this city from his place in Farmington, | and with Officer Fuller they visited | the place and found 15 cans, each containing five zallons of alleged al cohol. Judge William F. Mangan of this city appeared for Vernale, who was charged with storing. owning and possessing intoxicating liquor with intent to sell. Arzarigian, who was arrested on the charge of storing | liquor, pleaded not guilty, explain- | ing that he rented the farm to Ver- nale for the storage of fruit.
