The rejuvenated Bostonians gained another victory in their drive to climb out of the American league cellar by jolting the Detroit Tigers vesterday, 3-2. A home run by Harry Heilmann and doubles by Waner and Gehringer provided the Detroit runs. Rain and wet grounds forced the postponement of five contests. The Chicago Cubs ained three and one half game 2d the National league race and today had a double header planned with the Brooklyn Dodgers, from whom they . won 12 of 13 games played. Joe MecCarthy's team is beginning to look like the strongest in the race. The Cubs’ chances, however, probably | will be decided on their next road trip. If the team can return to Chi- cago still in first place it will hav the drop on its competitors, as Chi cago will play 20 of its last 26 game at home. The showing of the Cubs at home is unsurpassed in the Na- tional league. By a freak in the schedules, New York will be without major league baseball for two days.
