PRESS INSISTENCE DISPLEASES BUD Delends Mother's Action in Attacking Reporters New York, July 29 (P—James A. “Bud” Stillman and his bride, the former Lena Wilson, of Quebec, to- day were seekin; eclusion in the heart of America's largest city. They were occupied with details preparatory to their departure for Europe early Monday morning on the Olympic and in dodging camera- men and reporters. “Bud” and his bride arrived in New York yesterday, a day ahead of their original schedule, and slipped quietly to the Hotel Shelton apart- ment of Fowler McCormick, who was best man at the wedding. When they were discovered there by a reporter, “Bud” grinned cheer- fully as he Yemarked that he had kept his promise to his wife that she would not be bothered with newspaper or camera men. While her husband talked. Mrs. Stillman remained in one of the rooms- of the apartment. thumping on the piano with one finger a song hit from a current musical comedy. Young Stillman defended the ac- tlon of his mother in throwing erockery at news photographers during the wedding in Grand Anse Tuesday, “1 don’'t blame her one hit” he said. “They acted terribly. Even when we were cu‘ting the cake they kept pushing their machines right up on us until all I could see was a row of cameras with men behind them grinding at the cranks.” Today the couple planned to go to the Stillman Park avenue home to remain until sailing time. “Bud's father who arrived here with them. has gone to Long Island, leaving the Park avenue home and servants at the disposal of the bridal couple. Moir, who is spending a vacation in Canada and expects to be away until September 1. Rev. Mr. Aiken, who is a cousin of E. Stanley Welles, is occupying the parsonage for a few weeks. He has recently returned from Ichang, province of Huper, China, where he has been a missionary for 42 years. He is a native of Newington, having been born in the old parsonage on Main street which is now owned by Frank D. Root. His father was min- Mter at th local church from 1857 to 1867. According to comparative statis- | tics in a pamphlet concerning the ction of taxes w h has been INPROVED HEALTH Rigors of Office Have Not Aliected Him Rapid City, S. D., July 29 (UP)— President Coolidge is daily improv- ing in health after four years on the job which has heen considered & “man killer,” it was disclosed by Major F. Coupal, the president’s personal physician. While Mr. Coolidge has lost two pounds since his arrival in the Black Hills for his summer vacation, his general physical condition has been hardened by exercise of walking, fishing and horseback riding, Major Coupal told the United Press. After the death of President Hard- ing and the breakdown of President Wilson, agitation was begun to light- en the burden of the presidential position in the belief that onaous dutles were too much for one man. However, Coupal said that Mr. Coo- lidge is growing stronger on the job and that the rarefled atmosphere, 4,200 feet above sea level, has im- proved him considerably. Mr. Coolidge has never spent his summer vacation in such a high climate and Major Coupal was ap- prehensive that the change from * Washington here might affect the president’s heart. Instead it has helped him. “When you walk at this altitude for one mile you receive the same physical benefit as from four miles at sea level,” Coupal said. Mr. Coolidge demonstrated pecu- lar physical prowess for a man of his 56 years when last Saturday he climbed the 500-foot canyon wall at Slate Creek canyon without exhibi- tion of any fatigue while younger newspapermen were puffing at the top of the precipitous grade. Major Coupal said Mr. Coolidge gets more out of wallsing than the average man because he has adopt- ed a military stride, walking with | chest out, waist in and head erect. ‘When he came out here Mr. Cool- idge weighed 160 pounds but exer- cise he has taken has hardened him down to 158. | READ HERALD CLASSIFIED ADS ADS FOR YOUR WANTS \) ness of this dairy. issued by the state tax department, residents of Newington are p | considerably 1 taxes per than either H ford or New Bri tain residents.
