FIDELITY & DEPOSIT COMPANY BALTIMORE, MARYLAND PAR $50 Dividends 14%, ($7), Payable Quarterly March 31 This company was organized in Maryland in 1890 with an initial paid-in capital of $500,000. Uninterrupted dividends have been paid since 1895, In January 1913 it ahsorbed the American Bonding Company of Baltimore. Although the American Bonding Company is still meeting as a corporate company, the Fidelity & Deposit Company has reinsured all but a small part of the company’s business, to all practical purposes it is merged with the Fidelity & Deposit. In 1910, the Philadelphia Casualty Company came under the com- pany’s control. The business of the Philadelphia Casualty Company was later liquidated. In 1913 the company became affiliated, through the financial interests of its directors, with the Citizens Fire of West Virginia. This move was not very successful, however, and after some unprofitable experience the company ceased writing insurance and changed its name in 1914 to Citizens Company, Inc. Since 1919 the Fidelity & Deposit Company has concen- trated on fidelity, surety and burglary insurance. In these lines it has been very success- ful. As a matter of fact, the company has not shown an underwriting loss for the past ten years and its average underwriting profit for this period is unusually high. Since the stock dividend of 66 2/8% in 1923, the surplus of the company has more than doubled. The man- agement of this company is of the highest type of capable and experienced surety insur- ance men. Its directors are well known business men and financiers.
