74 - GAME BIRDS WILL BE LABELED HER™ SponSmen Mfiw Policy in Releasing Pheasants From now on, every game bird feleased by the New Britain Fish & Game association will wear its own private label, according to action taken at a meeting of the game committee last evening. The meet- ing was held at the F. W. Monier & Brother store, which is headquar- ters for the association. The association has ordered pheasants from Ohlo and it is ex- pected these will arrive within a week. Others will be purchased shortly. It is planned to release pheasants in the spring hereafter instead of in the fall as has been the custom. Under the old system the birds were released in the fall shortly before the hunting season. The majority of them were killed oft by hunters during the season and others, not heing accustomed to their surround- ings, had difficulty surviving the winter, Many fell prey to foxes and | other animals. | Now the birds will be released in the spring. They will have a longer time to become acquainted with their | surroundings and will be able, to breed during the summer. It is hop- ed in this way that they will in- crease about 10 to one during the | summer, and those which do mot | fall before the hunter's gun in the | season, will be able to look after themselves in the winter. The shipments will be sent by ex- press to the residence of S. W. Avery at Avery's Corners, so that they will | be close to cover in case any of them escape. Each bird will have a metal band around one leg con- taining the words, “Please write, N. B. F. & G. Assn, P. O. Box 406." The individual number of the bird | also will be stamped on the metal band BERLIN SHOCKED BY NEGLECT OF FAMILY: | (Continued From First Page) } mother.
