HOPEFUL FUTURE FOR NEW ENGLAND Ex-Governor Cox of Massachu- setts to Address C. of C. “A Hopeful View of New Eng- land” will be the subject of the address to be made .at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet Wednesday evening by Channing CHANNING H. COX H. Cox of Boston. Mr. Cox was for- mer governor of the state of Mas- sachusetts and is vice president of the First National bank of Boston. Clark Belden, executive secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, Wwill speak. Governor John Trumbull, who fs due home from Florida to- morrow, is expected to speak also. Mr. Cox is a Dartmouth gradu- ate and the local Dartmouth club is preparing to entertain him when he arrives Wednesday. The banquet will be at the Bur- riit hotel and will be informal. It will be for men and women. Deserted by His Wife, Stamford Man a Suicide Stamford, Jan. 31 (P)—The body of Oswald Backhaux, 33, was found hanging from an overhead water pipe in the basement of his home today. He had stood on a stove, tied one end of an electric iron at- tachment about his neck and the ! other about the pipe and then jump- od off. A letter in German, disposing of his effects, was left by Backhaux who was deserted by his wife several days ago. She is reported to have taken $1,200, Backhaux's savings, with her.
