We ram into WSM, Nashville, ich came through in commend- able style. A boy soprano, possessed of a remarkably sweet, clear and true voice, presented several num- bers in a delightful manner. “Come Garden, Love” and “My Lover Fisherman” were fwo of the numbers. WSM suffered from inter- ference to some extent, but it was largely overshadowed by the heavy wave from the Nashville transmit- ter. . Clear and loud, with now and ther a dash of electrical nonsense, was WEAO, Columbus. That station is located where there are no other stations to interfere, although the backslap from WPG, Atlantic City, can be heard on rare occasions when the station is spreading Itself more than usual. Well, an instrumental trio, not the best we ever heard and also not the worst, offered a group of selections including “By The Brook” and “Spanish Serenade.” oo And another Spanish Gypsy or- chestra landed with a terrific smack. These spe- cial rates are effective from Jan. 13. The employes had asked increases of 11 1-2 and 12 cents an hour. The company contended that government control, inflation and unproftable contracts prohibited the meeting of the demand. Under the railway labor act the award of the arbitration board is final. Hearings were started Dec. 21 and concluded Jan. 7. The case was presented directly by representatives of the express company, the Ameri- can Federation of Express Workers, the Brotherhood of Rallway and Steam Clerks, freight handlers, ex- press and station employés and the Order of Railway Expressmen.) The arbitration comprised John H. Clarke, former associate justice of the supreme court; W. B. Wilson, secretary of labor in President Wil- son’s cabinet, and E. A. Stedman, vice president of the express com- pany. Mr. Wilson represented the employes. Mr. Clarke in a statement announcing. the award, hailed the unanimous decision as a promising indication of the success of the rail- way labor acts.
