[~ | NEW BRITAIN HERALD NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 1926. - LET’S RUN THIS THUG OUT OF TOWN This The most disreputable character in this town of ours is Fire. He is our vilest murderer, our biggest thief, our most treacherous enemy. Let’s all cooperate to run him out of town. In 1924, the average burning rate for the nation as a whole was $1,504,279 every day. Last year it was larger. Figure it down to minutes, and you see that $1,044 goes up in smoke every time your watch ticks off sixty seconds. And remember this—two out of every three fires are prevent- able. That means that two out of every three fires here and in ts Fire Prevention Week other communities, are caused by ignorance or by carelessness. This is Fire Prevention Week—a time to give serious thought and take serious action. Let’s all learn to be sure that our matches, cigars and cigarettes are out before we toss them aside; let’s make sure that chimneys and flues are in good condition; let’s keep our homes, stores and factories clean and free from rubbish; let’s build as safely as we can and take every means to protect that which we build. Let’s all do everything we can to run Fire out of our town, Published in the interests of Fire Prevention by NEW BRITAIN BOARD OF UNDERWRITERS ASSOCIATION ‘Andrews & Stevens, 15 W alnut St. Cox & Dunn, 272 Main St. Commercial Co., 274 Main St. Fidelity Finance Corp. 140 Main St. H.
