WOREAU'S MOTHER - HEARS NOTHING Missing Marine Fomnd With Companion in Okio —_— "0t course T am anxious and ver ‘ much worried but there is nolh!n: | I-can do. I believe Paul would not I wiltully desert and I do not think [ he was in responsible condition . mentally,” said Mrs. Augusta Mor. o ¢au, mother of Paul Moreau, who according to the Assoclated Press, was located at Waterville, O, a suburb of Toledo, Saturday after having been missing from the U, S. Marine corps since the Lake Denmark explosion on July 10. Mrs. Moreau has had no official » Dotification of the fact -that her P son was in the Ohio city w,ith Oliver C. Bliss, also of the marine corps, both of whom were found at an inter-urban station of Waterville, suffering from shell shock. Their memories gone the young men w.ho claimed to have been in swimming when lightning struck the Plcatiny army arsenal wandered ] aimlesly ever since until instinct gulded the footsteps of the younger bol Bliss, who is but 18 years old, to ¢ his-home town in Ohio. Here they 8 were found by the father of Bliss q and a cousin. Both young men yesterday were blindly groping through a mental fog trying to piece together events and occurrances since the accident Which set them wandering. Neither boy seemed able to give any lucid explanation of his journey. “Hello, Oliver,” was the greeting of Verne Bliss, Oliver's father. “Get away, my name ain't Oliver,” was the re- ply. He later recognized his mother - B and a gradual return to memory be- gan from this recognition. The boys arrived at Waterville with a total of $2.50 between them. Neither boy could explain how they got there ,although Mr. Bliss ex- pressed the opinion that they had walked. “It was the hand of God that directed my boy to Toledo,” e said Mrs. Bliss. Glad that her boy was found safe, i but worried for fear his actions will be misinterpreted, Mrs. Augusta Moreau of this city is anxiously awaiting further inforamtion. Mrs. Moreau has had no official notice of the finding of her son, and her knomledge of the whole affalr s confled to what she has been told by sympathetic newspaper men. Crippled and almost a helpless in- v valld Mrs, Moreau hopes and prays e 2 that a kind Providence will aid her 1 boy in his trouble, “Something must have happened to efiect Paul's mind or he would not have run away” she declared cmphatically. “I don’t know what k clse to think. When he was Rome ] on furlough June 1, he seemed to | be perfectly happy and well satis- , fied with conditions where he was. He did not indicate that he would like to leave.” 3 Paul often got leave of absence to go to Atlantic City over week-ends, Mrs. Moreau told a Herald repre- sentative, and when she received a telegram from him from Atlantic City the day followirg the explosion saying he was safe and would return Tuesday she thought nothing of it. 1 When she failed to receive a letter or additional communication she be- A gan to worry. Unlike many youths who enter the service from homes which are not too pleatant, Paul was reared tain in one of the best The young man’s father died 16 years ago lcaving a widow and a four year old son. Since that time Mrs. Moreau and her son have . made their home with the former's brother-in-law Dr. E. T. Fromen at 523 West Main street. Paul is but 20 years old. He at- Y tended the New Britain High school and when he was home on June 1, he told a Herald representative he had just completed a course in mov- . ing picture operaling at the Brook- lyn navy yard and ecxpected to be transferred to San Diego, Cal. Dr. Fromen, who has been in f Europe during the summer, arrived in.New York on the Swedish-Amer- ican line Saturday and is éxpected to reach New Britain this afternoon or ovening. He has not been in touch « with his home here since his arrival, and it is not known whether or not her is familiar with the story of his nephew and ward.
