NEW BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, THURSDAY, JULY 29, 1926. HONEST MEXIAN DIVORCES VALID Healy Makes Ruling Affecting This State Hartford, July 29 (# — Divorces procured in Mexico are recognized n Connecticut, providing there is no evidence of fraud concerned with the securing of the decree, General rank B. Healy S Town Clerk Henry P. Crawford of Greenwich. When any question of illegality arises, because of fraud, a marriage license in this state shot not be issued to the divorced person, he says, adding that it might be ad- | visable in cases of this kind to have the person produce the divorce de- cree. A license to be rgarried has been issued by Town Clerk Crawford to | a person who had a Mexican decree | of divorce, he says in a letter to the attorney genecral. He directed the issue of the license because the laws of Connecticut do not state that it is necessary to produce a copy of | the divorce decree when securing a | marriage license, he says. The recent agitation because of alleged divorce mills in Yucatan, Mexico, when it was sald that the | divorce could be- arranged, for a consideration, in advance before court trial, brought the Mexica situation before officials 1in this country. In view of this Town Clerk Crawford asked for legal advice on the matter. He sald last night that a subordi- nate in his office chandled the particular case in question, and that he did not know the name of | the person involved or whether the person was a resident of this state. Only one case of this kind has come to his attention and this was sever- al weeks ago, he said.
