ELISHA COOPER Mrs. Cooper has on display a notable number of oil paintings of rare charm at the gallery of the New Britain institute. Included in the exhibit are also several done by Mrs. Kenneth Sloper of this city and Nunzio Vayana and Albertus E. Jones of Hartford, | Social Activities About Tuwn The holiday week has never been more gay than this one, The young people home from school, some of them bringing roommates or friends, and the other guests in town have all helped to make it especially brilliant, with its many teas, bridges, luncheons and theater parties. Of course, a dance for practically every night has added a great deal to an almost full week. Beginning on Wednes- day with the Alpha Alpha sorority dance, going on down through the week with an A. 1. E. dance on Christmas night, as well as the usual festivities at the Shuttle Meadow club on that day, Saturday will see still another dance at the Country club and, for this, plans bid fair to make it one of unusual brilliance. Mr, and Mrs. Arthur Kimball, Mr. and Mrs. Pardon Rickey, Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Swift, Mr .and Mrs. DeWitt Page and Mrs. Havold Sloper are among those entertaining at dinner preceding the dancing, for which Si Yafie will play. Of course, New Britain is on the tiptoe of expectation awaiting the New Year's eve celebration, and there are to be several in town. The dinner dance at the Hotel Burritt and the entertainment at the Shuttle Meadow club will turn the city into a gay mecca of revelry. It is said that there will be no difficulty in filling the quota of guests at either place. The club will see one of the largest parties of. the season. Nearly every member is planning to be there and several will give dinner parties preceding the dancing, which will start at 9 o'clock and continue until 3 o'clock. A list of those reserving tables reveals the names of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Parsons, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Traut, Mrs. Lillian F. Hopkins, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Racklitfe, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vibberts, Mr. and Mrs. George Steinle, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bruemmer and Mr. and Mrs. James E. Cooper. New Year's Day will see still another realm of parties, and since a great many will be invited to more than one there will be an opportunity to “go an” from one to another. On that day “open house” is always held at the club, and while it usually draws the largest gathering of folk in town there are, to be sure, a number of other notable affairs.
