Speaking of Sports A report has epread about town that the proposed benoefit football game' betwoen All-New Britain and the Providence Steam Rollers was “'oft" because of the fact that no ar- rangements could be made between Managers E4 Dalley and Charles Coppen of Providence. This is be- ing denled by Manager Dalley at the | pregent time. Manager Dalley stated that Man. ager Coppen has offered the local team Wednesday, December 16, as the date for the game, that being the only dagy on which he can get his team to come to this city. Manager Dalley has held off signing for the game because many have stated that the 16th would be too late 'in the season. He has asked that all the fans who wish to have the game go through get in touch with him some ! way or another o that he will know | if there is enough of a demand for the game. It Is our contention that the game should be played. We fecl sure that the fact that the game will be played on a Wednesday will have no bear- ing whatever on the sale of tickets | because of the object for which it | will be played. Several benefit affairs are being staged in Bridgeport for Hammill and it only seems right that @ benefit ghould be staged in this city with which team he was last connectad. We teel sure that Manager Dalley will have enough encouragement to etage the game from fandom in this city and that a sizable sum will be realized for the young woman whose hushand was taken away so tragi- cally from her. Tonight will be a big night for bowlers in this city. “Eddle" Ander- son, Connecticut's own champlon, and “Barney” Spinella, the king roll- er of New York, will battle each other at the Casino alleys for the honors between the two. Frank McDonough has worked hard to make this match a success, but it seems that others have been working hard against the local sports emporium owner. Yesterday morning a slick looking gentleman walked into his place and lifted the i cash box at the point of a gun. Frank will have to sell a lot of tickets for the match between the bowlers tonight to make up for the loss sustained in the holdup yes- terday. 'There is philosophy in his attitude towards the holdup man at that. Frank sald he was forced to remove his safe from the place because it ! had been held up so many times. In fact, it was getting to be monotonous with the safe being tapped every so often and there is some consolation in the fact that another way was fo nd to take Mac's money away. Mac sald that he would rather lose his dough betting on a shot on the links than in the manner he lost 1t yesterday. When he misses a three foot putt and the hole he at least had a chance to work for his money while yesterday he only had one shot for his green and that was from the business end of the hold-up man's revolver. Bowling fans in this section are banking on “Eddie" Anderson to come through tonight and tomorrow night agalnst “Barney” Spinella in their special match at the Casino alleys. Anderson leads by eight pins and this margin is none too great. Anderson is bowling in wenderful shape these days and his form is as good if not better than it has been. He hits the timbers for a good score every time he bowls and although Spinella is a dangerous man on the lanes, Anderson has ehown in the past that he is as good, {f not bet- ter, than the Empire Stats cham- pion It is certain that a big crowd will be on hand to watch the beginning | of the second half of the match to- night. These two are the cl the entire crew that patronizes the lanes in this city and the interest in their meeting is at te heat. The National Guards team is scheduled to stag t really good battle this coming Sat- urday night at the state armory when they stack up against th Meriden National Guards. The Silver City hoop tossers are the best in the state and have travelling at a fast pace in t two starts.
