FASCIST OBSERVE ANNIVERSARY DAY Thoee Years Ago Occurred Their March Ino Rome Rome, Oct. 28 (M—The Fascists throughout Italy today celebrated, with mo than their usual effer- vescence, the third anniversary of their’ march into Rome' under the guidance of Mussolini. All the public buildings and most of the private ones were festooned with the national tricolor and fascist emblem, while the banks and busi- ness houses were directed to close at noon in order that th festival | spirit might be complete.s The principal mode of celebration was the parading and reviewing of the fascists national militia in the various large cities, The chlef func- tlon of this kind occurred at Milan, where Mussolini, in the uniform of a military corporal, reviewed on horse- back 25,000 black shirts, 200 infan- try, 500 marines and 300 aviators. The most picturesque part of the celebration in Rome centered about the Piazza Popolo, through which the black-shirted fascisti ‘marched on the memorable day of their entry into the capital three years ago. Thousands of vari-colored electric bulbs were strung over the piazza and along the cornices and gables of the time-worn buildings, the whole forming a falry-like setting of com- bined antiquity and modernity in which the crowds made merry. Eyven the trees along the slopes of the Pichlan Hill were draped with clusters of bulbs, and projectors had been spt up to direct floods of light against the surrounding build- ings. General Varini, commander of the Roman Legion of the fascist militia, yecelved 2,000 men, who afterward passed through the Corso, Rome's maln thoroughfare, to the tomb of the unknown soldier.
