Speaking of Sports The Corbin Red Sox baseball team will banquet Thursday night in the New York Dining rooms on Main street in obsetvance of the finish of the recent baseball season. The oc- caslon will also be the celebration of the team's cupture of the city pennant the past season, The double-dyed flasco presented | o by Harry Wills and Iloyd Johnson Iast night in Newark, N. J, wil prébably mean the end of the box- ing game In New Jersey, In a state that has never been over friendly to the gentle art of fisticuffs, a mess liko was presented to 10,000 fans last night ean do no good at all, but can do a whols lot of harm. Wills has been hailed as the per. cnnfal challenger for Dempsey's crown, but we wonder if, should ft happen that Wills and Dempsey meet in the ring, and it is very doubtful if that will ever come to pass, will fight fans flock to sce the patr. We doubt it. The fight game in the heavyweight ranks at least, seems to be a case of one sidestepping the other. Dempsey has been sidestepping Wills for four vears, but gn the other hand, the Lig Senegambian is dolng a little toe dancing himself by putting off Gene Tunney. Tunney wants to flght, and he wants to meet elther Wills or Dempsey, but it apparéntly is @ hopeless chase he has set himself to. The thing tg do in the minds of many fans i§'to have the promoters absolutely refuse to pay high prices for boxers and the pugllists would certalnly come down after a while. The great John L. Sullivan made the fight game popular throughout the country, but Dempsey apparent- Iy is trying his best to make it un- popular. It goes without saying that the sporting public is disgusted with the impasse in the heavyweight ranks. The management of the Hartford West Sides, following its defeat by New Britain a few weeks ngo, an- nounced that it was done with hiri high-priced stars to play on t team and straightaway the team w: tired with the exception of one man. The team ¥as reorganized with players belng chosen from around Hartford, and this sort of took the kiek out of the game for New Brit- afn fans who were expecting to see a real contending tcam come down to New Britain for next Sunday's game, But now, it has tome to light, that the West Siders are making one €x- ception o the rule, and that is for New Tritatn, The Hartford manage- ment {8 securing new players for the | team who will bhe expected to give New Britaln a stiff battie Sunday.
