The accldental opening of his parachute while shells were burst- |ing on all eldea nearly dragged Licu- tenant F. H. Morrow from a Martin bomber towing a farget over the fort last night. Tdeutenant Percy Warner, radio operatot on the plane, grabhed the shroud line of the parachute as it flew past him and held on until ! Licutenant Morrow, who was lying on the fuselage, realized the danger. Morrow rolled himself up in the trappings and succeeded ir disen- tangling himself. The plane, plloted by Lieutenant A. Y. Smith, was 5,000 feet over the sea at the time. Officors said that had the parachute carrled Lieuten- ant Morrow away he would have been shot to death. Though the mishap interferred with observations, the target towed {by the plane showed four shrapnul holes. The three-inch land batfer- ies had fired 92 rounds. During the day tests nine were scored on another target fore a tenth clipped the plano wire that held the target and set it flut- tering to the ground. Antl-air- craft guns fired 252 rounds at this target 5,000 feet in the air.
