Speaking of Sports SUIIUIIIINLLLG The Plrates, rated as a strong con- tender for the baseball chanmipion. ship honors of the city this year, have been eliminated by All-Ken- sington in two easy victories by the south end team. Kensington had an easy tinie sim- ply because the Pirates were nol up te snuff and in fact, yesterday's ex- hbition was poor from all standards o basehall. acked the sfamina (o enter into a serics of this ®ort and after last Sunday's defeat, they gave the impression yesterday that they were beaten before they started in to play. The old spirit was every depariment of the field, the Pirates, with few ex- ceptions, were lerrible. At bat, they were comparatively strong. but their best men failed to do much yester- day. On the bases, they failed to even give the semblance of know- ing what to do. lacking in the game, In Strange as It may scem, the lig | noises of the game failed miserably when it came o a pinch. Zeilke was the outstanding bust of the serics. He was brought into the Pirates' lineup to take the place of Beagle, 1 gular first baseman who is out with a bad rupture, but Beagle would have, we think, showed more than Zeilke showed at any time dur- ing the two game: “Fiddie”’ Goeh was the onc bright shining star of the Pirates team yesterday and he also pluyed the game for all it was worth last Sun- day. FEddie yesterday was a bear in the outfield and at bat made it known that he was there all the time. Jasper falled at short stop by making a number of bad errors, but his hitting sort of redeemed him yes- terday. Kensington had the spirit all the way through yesterday and they could not be beaten at the rate they were travelling. At times, “Slim" Politis wobbled, but his team was there behind him and they shut off runs that might have done some damage. Tt is rumored about that this may be the last of the Pirates as a team, but we hope not. The team has gtuck together for a number of years and has always been to the front in the running and it would be missed should it dishand at the present time. Just because the team goes into a series and loses, does not mean that the team is no good and if this attitude is being taken by the Pirates, then they should get rid of # right away. Everyene goes into a slump. And there is no doubt but what the Pirates were in a bad slump during ths contests with Kensington. Then, why should a classy ball team like the Pirates take two defeats so to heart that they talk about disband- ing? Let the Pirates not forget that there are other seasons coming and although they may feel discouraged at the present time, time will heal their wounds and we hope to &ee them out there again next year put- | ting across their game as they have in the past. The Corbin Red Sox and the Fal- | cons staged one of those games you read abont yesterday. It was a pret- ty pitching duel hetween Berg and Kania and either side could ave won. The breaks of the game gave the Red Sox the edge. but the I'al- cons are still ready to go back again next Sunday to clean them up, One of the largest crowds that has Aurned out to watch a ball game in any years was at St. Mary's field s yesterday and neither side lacked rooters e The Red Sox and the Falcons will go at it again next Sunday at St Marv's ficld and should the Red Sox come through with a win, then the finals will ed between them an! the ngton team Is Ken el terer who said sn't enough serics 1o the botl the St Poreival Next ose there interest in a fitle ttendance figures for | Mary's field and the | avenue srounds there will erowds present at the will hold the interest town. . e Sunday he larger and it the entirc me The Corlin Red Sox will practice tomorrow night at 6:30 o'clock at Walnut Hill pa nd again Thurs- day night at 6 o'clock at St Mary's field.
